Tea Towels and Old Stoves

I'm thankful for tea towels. Truly. I adore slinging a freshly laundered tea towel over my shoulder while I'm cooking.  A clean tea towel hanging in my kitchen makes me feel "all is well" somehow.  I'm also thankful that cloth tea towels are replacing paper towels (never a fav of mine). I buy mine everywhere, but I've seen a lot of crafty blogging gals stencil their own!

Any others who appreciate linen (or cloth) tea towels? What kind -- vintage, modern, loop, linen....?  How about the old Roper gas stove?  Be still my heart!! Anyone got one?

These are from Williams Sonoma.

Nothing beats the flour sack towels in my book. I sling one over a shoulder too, but what's funny is to look down and see my g'daughter doing the same thing!

Love the William Sonoma's..My mother machine embroidered in pink birds a set of the "days of the week" on flour sack towels that I will cherish till they fall apart....flour sack towels...one my "faves".

I agree with 'trash talk'! Flour sack towels are the best, and can't cook without one draped over my shoulder. But . . . do you ever lose yours and find it's been there on your shoulder the whole time??? :o) Becky G.

I haven't gotten hooked on tea towels- but I can see that I SHOULD. My Grandmother embroidered them (as well as pillowcases). It's funny that the only thing I wished to inherit from her was an embroidered pillowcase.

My other Grandma also embroiders them. I got a set with the days of the week on them for my wedding. Sadly, I used them and now they are long gone. I wish I'd just kept them safe.

Now, when it comes to aprons, I'm totally into that!

I'm trying to teach my kids to value handmade gifts and crafts. So far, so good.

I agree - tea towels are the finishing touch on a kitchen! I love linen ones and I've used them in the kitchen, powder room, as napkins and in bread baskets. They are indispensible! Thanks for stopping by my blog, Janean!

I love flour sack towels & I've been embroidering some w/ redwork - all because of special times spent drying the dishes while my Great-Grandmother washed them, and chatting about nothing in particular (which was the important stuff).

I love old tea towels and any time I see a nice one at a yard sale for 25cents (what are they thinking?) I grab it! As for the Roper stove, my brother sells antique stoves at www.antiquestoves.com!

I collect and display white linen towels, cut out lace, different edgings etc, in the bath and our bedroom but never considered linen towels for the kitchen. Guess it is because I am a "messy" cook. I think I would hate to use them! So then why reading your post does my heart seem to be "called" to try one in the kitchen? Just seems to be "romantic touch" I would enjoy and truthfully until I just read this post I never thought of linen in the kitchen. I love your blog. Like friendship over tea.
Happy Thanksgiving.

I have a little bit of a dishtowel fetish I'm afraid. I love the vintage ones the most, but usually get mine at Crate and Barrel, or Target....I like the cotton ones that dry well. I don't have a dishwasher, so I dry dishes everyday. I do have Day of the Week towels by Martha Stewart, and I LOVE them.

LOVE LOVE the old stove! I had a vintage stove for the first 20 years of my marriage. It was bittersweet getting rid of it, it was so hard to clean though....I do miss it now. Wish I had a spot in the basement or garage that I could have saved it. Sigh.

I, too, sling a tea towel over my shoulder while baking. Mine are new...I never thought of looking for vintage ones. Hmmm, I'll have to get on that right away! Thanks for stopping by my blog last week. It's nice to "meet" you!

I have a complete love for "cup towels". That's what we call them. I actually buy them on vacations in different places. It's fun!

My Dad has an old (50s I think) O'Keefe and Merritt range that is a beauty! Fits in perfectly with his hundred year old home.

Happy Thanksgiving.
