How About A Cookie?

This is Cookie. She's an English Springer Spaniel and the latest member of our son's household, and I hear she's a "sweetie." Is that why they named her Cookie? Anyway, I have always wanted a quality oil painting of a dog like Cookie or any spaniel. Great Gatsby's Antiques in Atlanta had some beautiful oil paintings of dogs ages ago, but even at a bargain price of $900.00 I couldn't afford one (most paintings now are $15,000 and up).  Maybe I'll find a small oil one day?  Do any of you incorporate animals in your decor? How?  This is an antique oil painting and a Spode plate.  Of course I'll give equal time to cats....and maybe birds and horses too.

Oh yes....I would love to have either of those you've shared.

Your new family member, Cookie, is just too adorable for words.

For our decor around the house we have several animals...from hand blown glass dolphins to dolphin paintings...then "Western" decor in a couple of rooms...mostly Longhorn steers.

Not to mention many many stuffed animals. LOL [I'm a kid at heart!]

Hope you find a painting of your dreams someday.

That is one super sweet Cookie! I have always had great photos of my own animals (past and present) around my home, but nothing quite as decorative as those!

A sweet looking dog, but what prices! I couldn't afford them either! Enjoy your day!

Cookie is beautiful! And she LOOKS like a sweetie. :)
Come to think of it, the only animals I've really incorporated into my decor are the chickens in my kitchen. Lots and LOTS of chickens.

Oh, his eyes are so sweet. My sister collects birds and dogs. In her baby's room she has little dog figurines old ones that we have collected from tag sales or antique stores. She also has a thing for birds so she has old antique pics and bird figurines, pillows. She has them arranged so well, I should post a pic sometime. She is so fun to shop for!

Cookie is a beautiful dog. In the perfect old frame that picture of her would be stunning.

The cost of quality art has gone through the roof ... but I do have a suggestion. There are some companies that make an oil painting out of a photograph for around $300 to $500. These are not just printed on canvas, but actually painted. You could take one of Cookie on the background you'd like. I found one that seems to do beautiful work and I can send it to you if you'd like.
(and she does look like a sweetie!) Have a great week!

That picture is spectacular! Love the posing and depth of field! Did you know that you can get a painterly effect of a photo using a digital image program? I could transform that picture for you, if you would like, into something that looks like a painting.

'Cookie' certainly looks like a 'sweetie.' :-)

Only animals we've been able to have [daughter allergic to others] have been cats. So I do have a couple of prints of cats. But just a couple. Not really incorporating them, into my home. :-)

The only animals I have included in our decor are the two real ones that love the sofa, chairs, and anywhere else they want to be!

I do, however, have lots of birds in my house. Pictures, nests, even a little cast iron bird I got at the gift shop at Butchart Gardens in Victoria BC a few years ago. I also keep my favorite bird book and small binoculars sitting on the end table with the cast iron bird so I can always find them when I need to find out what kind of bird is outside my door.

Have a great week! B.

I love love love the dog painting and dishes. I've always loved things like that because my dad was a hunter. I rug hooked their (dad and brothers) Setter. I took a photo and enlarged it than transferred it to monk cloth and hooked away.

For years we've had a Cairn Terrier as part of our household so it's fitting that there's a pen and ink of two Cairns over the mantel. I hope you find your oil - and at a very good price!

Cookie is "adorable"....far prettier than any of the pictures!
Blessings and hugs,

If you have an artist in the family I'd say Cookie would make the perfect model!

Your picture of Cookie is worthy of framing. As much as I have loved our animals in the past (have none now), I don't think the price of an Oil would have been possible. I really don't do much with animals in my decor. Love birds and have a few sitting around.
Outside, I have bunnies (pottery, even though we did have real ones for a while)
Loved the plate with the dog...think I could find a place for him.

Oh dear...YES! ESPECIALLY doggies. But kitties, bunnies, and chickens/roosters, a lamb or two. All of which we have or have had the real version at one time or another.(except a lamb)
I love animals and like to incorporate them into the decor because it speaks of who I am. :-)
Love COOKIE!!!!! I petsit a Springer named Elly and she is just a babydoll. Thanks for the great post and pics.

Cookie is precious. I have some figurines of dogs. I am getting a canvas made of Skye so I will hang that.

Cookie looks like a sweetheart. Do you need a dog sitter?
There are lots of roosters here. But other critters are around as well. I'm an animal lover! ~ Sarah

You could always commission a young artist for a reproduction ;-)

I've been looking for some classic dog paintings but like you said, their pricey! I found some Victorian print reproductions at a thirft store though and bought several small ones. Now I just need to make up my mind where to put them.

We had an English Springer Spaniel when I was young. She had 14 pups in one liter!

Cookie looks like a cutie! I love the plate! I never knew they did dog images on plates like that. I saw Ballard Designs online had an area of dog pictures that I have never seen in their catalogs. You could check there.

Janean- No cats here! Our youngest son was recently transferred back here and is temporarily living with us...along with his 7 month old springer spaniel named Charlie. In the last three days he has eaten 3 pairs of shoes, tried to get in the bathtub with me, and has bladder control issues when he is glad to see you...the dog, not the son :) Cookie is beautiful. Charlie would never sit for a portrait! Thanks for dropping by!

Janean said...

Susan, how funny!

Maybe Charlie will settle down when he's not a puppy? Let's hope so! lol.
