Going Gray is Stylish

Whenever a company wants to show how outdated their competitor is, or their product, their marketing strategy is to a GRAY haired person liking it.  I guess marketing firms know "gray" is the *kiss of death* to a product unless it's arthritis medication; gastric products or insurance.  (Keep reading. It gets better)  A case in point were the MAC computers versus PC commercials....okay, *PC* wasn't gray, but he WAS *fuddy-duddy* looking...wearing his dockers, outdated glasses and hair style.
A--ny---way, gray is the NEW neutral so it's modern and hip now, at least in interior design and decor!  Here are some beautiful rooms with shades of gray from blue or cool gray to warm gray. Would you be willing to try it in decor? Have you gone gray or do you *hide* it? I like to think I work WITH my gray...adding blond to it. *wink*   Photos: Gray walls with a hint of purple; Warm gray bedroom; Cement Gray bath; Platinum Gray Dining; Dove Gray seating; Soft Gray Bedroom; Steel Gray Powder Room and just two fabulous examples of why GRAY is stylish!

Janean,
It is very 30's Hollywood glam looking to me. Not quite enough color for me, but striking just the same. Mr. Gere is very suited to his gray hair. :)

Poor Mr. Pyjamas was bullied (by me ) into painting our hallway , entry and computer room grey about 6 years ago. The very moment it was all finished I said "I hate it" and made him start again in a different colour. it just looked so cold and austere here.

(Shudders at the thought of grey anywhere in her house ever gain.) I;m sure it looks lovely in others home however.

Gorgeous (Richard Gere and the rooms)! Gray is my color, I just adore it. When we moved into our new house last year I painted most of the public spaces a warm gray and LOVE it! The color changes with the day beautifully. To warm up the gray I paired it with brown in the family room and white in the kitchen & bath. After a year I wouldn't change a thing!

Best wishes,
Tammy

Ummmmm, I am rapidly going gray and don't care who knows it! I have earned every single bit of gray hair and anyone who disagrees can just go and disagree alone!

That said, I'll take the one in that last picture, thank you very much! Do you send express mail?

I think I like the last picture ~ do I know him? Just kidding! We did my husband studio in gray and turned out really nice. It's been this color for several years. We talked about updating the room alittle ~ but the color will stay the same. We love it! Big hug to you :)

I have noticed this trend!! Grey is picking up notice and becoming a desired shade again. I like the greys and silvers, almost as another shade in the "white" category... I have always liked grey and blue together. And yes...lol. I "work" with my grey..preferring to keep it in the distant background!!! But I have seen some beautiful grey heads of hair on some women, and they are gorgeous, (as in your photo) There is something about a grey that is not a salt and pepper grey. Lovely.
Thanks for your interesting grey post. Loved it, and all the photos. (and yes most of us would say Richard Gere is darn good looking even with grey) :-)
I like my man's grey and silver !

I love how gray is used in the home decor photos. Very calming and elegant.

I don't color my hair. I hope to be all white like my grandma was and have some pretty impressive streaks going! lol

As the grey streaks start to overtake the black in my hair I'm often asked why I don't colour. First of all, I don't wish to resemble Morticia Adams, and second - well, I rather like my streaks!
Very elegant grey walls there - they have me thinking.........

ok, I'm scrolling down and going 'no, I can't do gray'.....and then I see Richard.....needless to say I could do.....sorry, I digress!

Love the maturity and wisdom that usually comes with the gray hair.
The pictures are all beautiful, but I personally couldn't live at all with or in gray. I find it cold and depressing. But to look at it in these photos I see the beauty.

I love warm colors.

I just can't get that warm feeling about gray! I really don't like it in homes, to me it feels depressing! I love so many colors but not this one! Come say hi..sometime :D

My daughter who is a hairdresser tells me that I am going to have beautiful white gray hair one day just like my mom...not ready for it yet!

ahem, first of all, no one does grey
better than richard gere. :)

grey has always been my 'black',
because it is softer while having
the same neutral aspects.

i love how shabby chic white pops
on grey.

I was going to say that I think gray can become depressing. However, after looking at Mr. Gere's gray mane, I decided to take it back:)

Karen said...

Oh, I like that. Can I borrow that line. "I like to work with my gray?" Sometimes I leave it alone, but not right now.

The last Gray picture is gorgeous! LOL.

Ok Janean.... I've dreaded the day when gray would be the color.... NOT my favorite color!
However, I do like the bedroom..... its not too gray....
Richard Gere.... not bad.... Ha!

I chose gray brick for my last home and had gray carpet throughout my home. I would not color the grey in my hair. I tell everyone, "I earned every grey hair!" Ha! Gray is glamourous!

You know, this blog is so beautiful and interesting, all these posts would make such a wonderful magazine. I'm thinking an interior decorating/woman's interests type magazine. I would subscribe!! and I know all of our other friends here would too... :)
Just a thought I woke up with and had to share.
Everyone have a great day....

You probably won't ever see me "gray". I get depressed when I see a little root growth and feel so washed out.
However as for being in my home....that's different. When we started remodeling 6 years ago, I picked gray as my "neutral. My baths and laundry room have beautiful gray stone tile. Our house exterior is gray with white trim and my kitchen backsplash is accented with gray with black. With my love of blue and white it is the perfect neutral.
Richard Gere is an exception...he only got better with the gray. It's funny, but I love gray on men. My Hubby is certainly graying and I love it. And I think it is easier for blondes to go gray...not such a dramatic change.
Wordy today aren't I.
Have a great day, and thanks for the alwasy entertaining posts.

I've always liked gray decor in my house, but I also don't mind having Richard Gere and his gray hair in my house either!

I like a gray that is soft and certainly some grays are a bit warmer than others, as are blues. I think that the gray needs to be balanced with either quite a bit of white and silver, or some deep and warm brown tones to keep the whole effect from being to cold looking. You have shown some very striking and sophisticated rooms. I think Richard Gere is more handsome gray than he was before. Lovely post!

Good Morning Janean! I'm a bit behind in reading my favorite blogs again...but I'm here. I LOVE this post. I started going gray when I was about 16..I had a few gray hairs but it stayed that way until I was in my mid 20's. That was it...I dyed it brown for years (my natural color) but I was so sick of the 'skunk streak' that would show up a couple of weeks later! Then in 2000 I went gradually blonde with highlights. When it started growing out I noticed how gray I had gotten...so decided that was IT...NO MORE! I haven't looked back and I love it. There are some days I see myself in the mirror and think..hmmm..but that's as far as it gets. The clencher came when I was working out at the Y a couple of years ago and a lady came up to me and just stared at me and then appologized. She said she just LOVED my hair..she said it was BEAUTIFUL! Then I had a few other people I didn't know say the same thing. The best comments I get are from my Dear Hubby...sometimes he'll just out of the blue tell me my hair is pretty. So...I may not be 'hip' but I'm 'cool' gray and I LOVE it! I hope you have a wonderful day. Take care...Maura

Most awesome post! Those bedrooms are to die for - reeeeeeeeeeeerrr!

I've had grey hair since I'm 16 and want to grow it out natural now that I'm 40, but hubby cringes in horror, he doesn't want an old-looking wife. Sigh.

OK, I'm not exactly fond of my gray hair, but I do love the color in decorating! I have a gray foyer and guest bath. Three shade of gray actually, with the darkest being charcoal!

I never thought I'd let anyone else choose my decor, but I think I'd be happy with anything you picked!

I like the color gray. As for hair, I only have two or three but they are here to stay. I earned those babies!

I have a head full of it, so thanks for this post! We've actually had gray walls in our living room for eons. Used it in our previous home too. I often tell my husband he reminds me of Richard Gere. Both handsome guys with fabulous gray hair.
