Old Yeller

*Old Yeller* was a big hit movie in 1957. Several years ago I saw the rented version.  "Old yeller" is a classic standby that can go with any style. The HUGE trick when buying it for your walls is that it should NOT look yellow on the little card, otherwise you'll be upset at your choice. You can trust me on this; I literally went through gallons of yellow. Waverly (sold at Lowes) has  "Buff Lemon" that's very soft; "Butter" which is a great buttery yellow and "Soft Cream." Ask for a sample.
Unlike the movie, old yeller (the color) will never die. Photos from top: Golden Yeller...yellow bedroom with lilac; Yellow cabinet - Country Living; Yellow buffet - Country Living; Vintage Dress and Yellow diamonds for the girly-girls! Of course, our inspiration, "Old Yeller."

Janean,
Yellow is my fav! Can't watch the movie, tho. Saw it once, good movie, but on my, sad. I thought Marley and Me was going to be a funny, dog movie. I was sobbing at the end and went home and sat on the sofa with my two dogs, arms around both, giving them kisses, for an hour! Crazy dog Mama, that I am.
Have a great day, Janean.

p.s. Did you get the link to my listing?

I LOVE yellow! Growing up I loved visiting my grandmother's house because her kitchen walls were the color of sunshine and it was such a bright and happy room! I have yellow in my own kitchen, too. :)
When we built this house I told my husband I wanted the parlor to be yellow. Right now it is a shade called 'buttered bread'. Very soft, very comforting. :)

I am planning on doing our 2 guest room in a soft buttery yellow. One I want to accent with blue and the other...I'm stumped. My decorating problems will never end!

Oh how I love that movie, even though it makes my cry EVERY time. What a silly nilly..I love my dogs , so I just can't help it.
Yellow is so cheerful and there are SO MANY SHADES. You are right. And it never ever looks the same as on the card. YOU are so right. WE chose a color on our previous house, and oh my it turned out corn on the cob dark yellow..YIKES awful. We redid it a softer yellow.
I love the buttercream shades. The painted glass fronted cabinet is a "OH YES! I would love to have that!!" piece.
I want to paint our cottage house a yellow next time around, so I will be looking and choosing. The best thing I know to do is go up to someone's house who has the color I want and ask them what paint brand and color it is...even if they think I'm crazy. My great grandmother had a two story farmhouse painted yellow and white, and it was just the cat's meow in my mind! I will keep yellow in my kitchen . :-)
Thanks for a great post...Hugs

Please don't tell us about THE YEARLING!
Old yeller is on my banned list....
But I do like yellow in the kitchen
with red
it's like someone said...grandma's house
with all its comforts
..So if it looks yellow...don't choose it....I will think about that

Yellow creams.. love this touch. I had a dress like the one posted, took the bottom off and placed it on my "Jillian" (apron post on my blog) and kept the top for some thing sweet to create.

With love,

Olivia

Love the french sideboard!

I love yellow when we built our house and I had to pick paint, I picked sunshine white, thinking it would be more white than yellow. It has a nice warm feel to yet, but it still is yellow. I know I need to paint this summer, but I still like the color and the painter who painted it did his own colors so I may never get it again. :( I loved the movie Old Yeller, but the books are way better, Savage Sam comes after. Very violent, my boys loved them.
Great post by the way.

I love yellow walls and have always had one room in the house painted yellow. At Pondside it's the gathering room and our bedroom - one discernable yellow and the other just yellow enough to cause a glow.
The movie - well, I remember wailing at the crucial point!

That "butter cream" color side board is my favorite today. I enjoy wearing butter cream yellow, can't really wear any other shade of yellow, but have always loved to see it.

We have Old Yeller on dvd but it's never been out of the package. I can't bear to watch it knowing what's going to happen.

Yellow is such a happy color.

I love the movie Old Yeller. I bought it for my daughters when they were young. I cried every time we watched it! When we redid our kitchen a few years back we painted it a golden yellow. Our kitchen windows face the east, and I love the reflection off the walls on a sunny morning. We also painted our family room a soft yellow, and the two colors look lovely together. I love all your yellow photos.

Have a lovely day! :)

Hello Janean! I LOVE yellow. When we were nearly finished the renovations to our old farmhouse I brought home lots of paint chips from Home Depot and their Behr paint. The beautiful old Victorian we had lived in for 9 months was so dark that I wanted something sunny and light...so I looked for yellow. I don't know how many paint chips I brought home but I wasn't going to make a mistake...I wanted to be sure I was making the right choice. So..I chose 3 colours from the same strip. Castle Stone, Winter Garden and Creme Brulee. I LOVE how everything turned out. Each room flows together but has enough of a difference to change the mood. It's all very relaxing. Thank you for the beautiful photo's...Love that dress and those cabinets! Have a wonderful day...Maura

Yellow is my favorite color, always has been and always will be.
I do like some other colors too! I love the purple with the yellow. We just put our yellow guest room furniture in storage for our daughter to live here. I miss it!

Those earrings are beautiful. I love yellow, too. But too much overloads my mind. Hey, but bring on the lemon pie or cake anytime.

Horrible movie... made me cry like a baby!

And the kicker is that walmart carried the disney brand of dog food "old yeller" to pull on consumer's heartstrings, only the food is beyond terrible - a bag of pure garbage guaranteed a quick death to any dog that eats it!

That being ranted, er said, i love all the pics - ah, to have such taste in furniture and a lovely old house to put it all in!

I still remember going to the movies with my family to in the 1950s to see "Old Yeller". To this day it upsets me that he died. But I also love the color yellow and in all of our homes we have painted most of the walls with Benjamin Moore's "Oriental Silk" which is a creamy light yellow shade. Any other color goes with it.
