Better Button Up!

If every mom had a dollar for every time she told her family, "You'd better button up," indicating it's cold outside...well, she could hire a full-time valet to make sure everyone was properly buttoned up.
I adore buttons, so today I'm honoring The Button. Are there other button zealots or collectors?  Photos: Buttons by the jars; Button shoes; Button heart; Button earrings; Button mushrooms and Button nose!  Also, thank you Mari for the sunshine award. :)

Nice post. And yes, I know there are many button collectors in the Netherlands and in France as well.

Have a nice Easter,
Hermine

I would love to have those big ole jars of buttons sitting in my sewing room. They look so pretty.
Who could resist!

The button heart wreath is so simple and sweet. And, the baby's button nose, so cute.

I LOVE buttons! My grandmother and my mother each had a pretty tin in which they stored loose buttons. I used to love playing in those, examining each of them, admiring the colors, textures and designs. :) What fond memories!

I L*O*V*E buttons! And I have quite a collection. I use them in my crafts, and love them in decor. They are on of those things that brings back memories of sweeter times! And sometimes when someone tells you to 'button it up' they mean to hush! :o)

I love buttons too. I had a large tin that was full of buttons from my mother and grandmother (so they're old and very special to me).. just a few months ago, I found a very large clear vase to put them in so I could see them, just like your picture.
Love those shoes!

I LOVE buttons...and it must be in the genes...my grandma loved buttons, I love buttons and my daughter loves buttons! In fact, after my grandmother passed away, my brother came to me with one of those tins I featured in an older post and handed it to me. "I thought you might like to have these." , he said. When I removed the lid from the tin it was filled with buttons! I need to get those out and put them in jars so they can be enjoyed. I did pick out some favorites and put them in a little canning jar with the gasket and have them displayed in our living room...right beside a small spool of thread that had belonged to my grandmother's sister!

WOW...thanks, Janean, for doing this post today. It brought back so many pleasant memories!

I have jars of buttons, packages of buttons, and I find single buttons every once in awhile in the oddest places. Love the heart with the buttons attached!

Oh Janean, Loving all the photos so much today. Every one of them is inspiring. CUTE cute unique one of a kind shoes!! And buttons in a jar just always always seem nostalgic. Love that little baby doll.
The Amish won't use zippers...only buttons! (well I think some of them may have modernized a little and use the zippers now.) but not the Old orders.
Thanks again! Have a great day.

My mum's button jar disappeared and started one of my own - it is getting satisfyingly full!
Do you remember the old song 'Button up Your Overcoat'? I tried, and I think I can remember all the words!

What a great 'ode to buttons'...and such wonderful ways to feature them. I loved to play with my grandmother's buttons as a child...and still keep a jar 'in case I might need them'.

Thanks for visiting me at My Front Porch...always fun to meet new bloggers. I'll be back.

Makes me think of the "Button, button who's got the button" game. And my mom, she has a big button collection. Very pretty! (and cute as a button baby!)

I was blessed to get my dad's grandmothers old sewing machine in a table, which I use as my sewing table. In it, I found a whole bunch of old, old buttons. My dad later told me that when he was little and it was rainy out, "Granny Meeks" would sit him down with all of these buttons and have him separate them out by color and size. I've never been into buttons but these are very special buttons.

I'm a button collector too. On of my brother's first pictures was of him in a little outfit that said "Cute as a button" with a button in place of the word :-) Loved your photos. I've always said that if I had a dollar for every time I heard "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia" I'd be rich.
Blessings,
Marcia

I'm not a button collector, but I sure am glad we have them. Wonder who invented the things, anyway?

I saw those jars of buttons and fell in love. Those are so pretty.
I love buttons but haven't thought about putting them in jars. I am going to find all my buttons and do a jar of mixed colors.

Again, a very disturbing last photo - LOL!

Love your themes - how do you pick them? :)

Thanks for visiting my blog so I could find yours. What a fun place to visit. I love the buttons on the shoes.

I'm adding you to my blog list!

Bernie said...

You know sweetie I just love how you find these themes for your post and I love seeing all those buttons in jars, never thought of that.....could be because I don't sew, if something needs a button I put it in the needy bag and buy a new one.....I know, I know have you stopped yelling at me yet? I am just being honest.....:-) Hugs

The shoes were a crafty idea. Buy inexpensive canvas shoes & hot glue buttons on!!! Wooohooo!
