Hammocks.....Ahhhhhhhh......

Hammocks have been around for at least a thousand years. About four years ago I bought a woven, cotton hammock and hung it between two trees at Old Sweetwater (like the first photo)....then I did NOT move out of it for....oh...three days.  Okay, I slept inside at night and I couldn't find a way to balance food and drink in it, so I ate at the patio table, but other than the necessities of life, I was in that hammock. It's gotten worn, so by next summer I plan to replace it. I'm not sure if I'll go with a woven again or nylon? Here are some images to inspire you. In the meantime you'll find me *veggin' out* in the hammock under the two ash trees. Do you have or want one? On the last photo, it's not like I didn't warn ya! *Yawn* Z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z

Hi Janean,
I'm glad that I do not have one because I wouldn't get anything done!
We live near Pawleys Island where they make the famous hammacks. Love all the photos, especially the one with the lace.

hugs

Oh, I love a good mammock. We had one years ago but this house has no good place to hand one so I passed it down to my daughter. The grands love to climb into it and tip their brothers and sister over on the the ground....such fun.

OH, I love hammocks! Several years ago I bought hubby one with the stand for his birthday. He sat down in it once, and I eventually threw away the rotted hammock, and gave the frame to the junk man just a few weeks ago to get it out of the yard. But yes, I do love hammocks!

I love hammocks and those are some great ones.
When I was a teen ager we used to go to my grandparents farm every week end and I spent a lot of time in my grandpa(dad'n) hammock. Thanks for the memories.

Great pictures..... I love the puppies in the hammock.
I love hammocks hanging between trees, it just seems so natural.... I don't like the stands.
We no longer have a hammock, .... we don't have 2 trees...
Have a good weekend!

Hello Sweet Janean of Old Sweetwater! Was so excited to see a post from you this morning...and even more excited when I saw that the post was about one of my "favorite things"...hammocks. I don't have one that ties between the trees, (mine is like the second picture only made with metal instead of wood) but I have many wonderful memories from childhood when spending time with my daddy in a "real" hammock after the noon meal was a really a ritual with him. Even though my daddy is in Heaven now and my hammock is a freestanding one, I still enjoy any time that I have to wile away some enjoyable hours.

Janean, I have always LOVED the look of a hammock and all that look represents, but I never thought I would really be able to relax without thinking I was going to fall out! LOL! The one that has a stand that looks like a boat is so beautiful!! All of them are so beautiful!!

Janean,

This is one thing I haven't gotten around too yet that I want desperately. How wonderful it would be to retreat to a hammock, with a good book and a cool drink.

Your Friend,
Deborah

Oh how I dream of a hammock like that! Tied between two shady trees, just made for relaxing! The hammock, a tall glass of iced tea and a good book...well, let's just say that's my idea of a perfect weekend. :)

I've never mastered the art of getting in and out of a hammock - consequently I can't relax while in one...worrying about the getting out!

Hi Janean,
I think the idea of a hammock is a wonderful one and it would be in theory the best way to wile away the summer day, but I don't think it would be for me. I think my favorite is the first picture or the one on the beach. All of the pictures make me think of rest.

Oh I wish I could remember a poem that I love about a hammock!
anyway...a mouse chewed ours in the garage over winter at our house in Galena...along with the lining of my husband's spare golf bag!
so what's the lesson
mice love fabric too

I think I'd like to have a hammock but I'm not sure I'm coordinated enough to get in and out of one safely. LOL!

We had a hammock chair that we bought at a Renaissance Festival years ago. We recently replaced it with one from online. It hangs from a hook on our patio. I adore it.

Your hammocks look soooo inviting. I love the gentle swing when you're situated just right. But getting there for me, takes time. :P

I love hammocks!! I have one under a carribean almond tree, the shade is perfect there. One surely can relax in a hammock. Love the pics.

Have a blessed weekend.

We have a hammock like the blue striped one except mine is green plaid. It is too hot to use now, but love it when it is cool out.

Love a hammock, unfortunately have not had the use of one since I moved away from home....not sure about a nylon one sweetie, I would think a cotton or canvas would be more comfortable.....:-) Hugs

Hi Janean!
I LOVE hammocks. I used to have one years ago and it was hung under the trees along the creek at the back of our property. That's when I lived in the mountains of British Columbia. We have the perfect spot for one here at the farm but haven't gotten around to buying one yet. I love the one on the right of the first photo! Enjoy your Sunday...Maura :)

They look so inviting, especially that first one. We had a hammock in our backyard when I was a kid, and I spent many hours there too.

Well Hello Janean,
Yes, Hammocks are a piece of summer bliss. For me they represent a laziness, that seems only "legal" on a hot, summer afternoon.
...Ahhhh....
How very lovely of you to stop by. I too have strolled through your "Wonder Filled" world, and am
S*M*I*T*T*E*N...such BEAUTY...and as I read your "lovely list" I was nodding my head in agreement with each and every item listed.
Stop by again soon for a wee visit when you have time.
...smile on Rosie....

I couldn't stop laughing after your comment on my blog!!! LOL, hilarious!! Actually, that "issue" has been one of my biggest worries, if you know what I mean.

I think I need to recuperate underneath a hammock. :) Maybe on an island.....

i want the one with the white canopy and drapes around it. that, in it's elegant simplicity says summer to me....it looks like a great place for a family nap.

oooo the memories! when i was little (like 7 years old little) we had a cheap blue nylon hammock near the house, my little bro and i spend countless hours torturing each other with it... who could wrap whom in it and then swing them around and around until vomiting was induced - LOL!

ah, good times :-D

Hi Janean!
I've never had a hammock, but I've always wanted one! Someday!!!
Right now it's too hot to be outside much, but come September, it would be delightful to take a little nap in a hammock!
