What Size Cup?

When I shop for coffee cups, the first thing I try is the handle for comfort and balance. Then I make sure the cup's not going to be too heavy when it's full of steaming coffee or cocoa....and I always want a saucer! I usually buy a set of four or six which don't match my everyday dishes. They can't be too small, but I'm not into *bowls* of coffee either.  My dad's favorite cup was an ugly, stained plastic travel mug. My mom's was glass stemmed mug. Mine came from Williams Sonoma (but the saucers recently got chipped - waaahhh!).   Do you like mugs or cups? Large or delicate?  Show me some coffee LUV!!!!

Must confess ... I'm kinda into the bowl of coffee! Heavy in my hand, good for exercising my arthritic fingers?

Your blog is just so very elegant ... consistently.

My favorite mug is similar to the one in the photo third from the bottom, maybe a little more round. It is comfortable to hold and I have two - a pale blue and pale green.

I could easily collect coffee mugs!

I LOVE the look of a cup and saucer... but, for my every morning cup of life, I prefer a mug... similar to the one lower in your post, purple... not too big... not too small... just right. LOL! I've never met a coffee cup I didn't like!

Ooohh.. love the shape of that first cup. I'm assuming that's your Williams Sonoma. Looks like that could hold a good cup of cocoa with whipped topping and not be too messy. Not a coffee drinker here but I do love cups and saucers of every kind.

Good Morning Janean,
I am just having my first cup of coffee this morning. I love my "ooh-la-la" pink and black laced coffee mug. The handle is delicate and I love how the china feels and looks.

Isn't it funny how we get attached to our coffee and teacups!

hugs

Awesome mugs! I love the clear one best!
What would our lives be without coffee???

I have a set of the curved monogrammed missus mugs from Anthropologie (for women) and a set of the heavy block letter monogrammed mugs (for men).

I like mine large and deep. When we lived in Germany and would travel I bought coffee mugs everywhere we went it was the cheapest and now my favorite token. I had my coffee in my London mug today!

Well..sadly..I am not a coffee drinker..yep..you read it right..DON'T drink coffee. So I have never pondered buying these interesting things called coffee cups..lol
But if I did..I think..they would need to fit my hands to hold them comfortably. Next the color!!

Enjoyed this!! I am a tea drinker..here in the South..we do like our tea in large glasses..next assisnment ....glassware..lol

Hello Janean!!
What a cute post!
I am a cup-lover!! I collect them -kinda. I dont have tons of room in my cupboards but when we're on a trip I usually buy one new one :)
I love starbucks cups..they always have something new and interesting.
I prefer a more slender tall cup as opposed to a fat cup. I always find the hot drink cools down too quickly with the wider mouth.
I admire cups made out of pottery, and their uniqueness...
but basically Ill drink a hot drink out of any kind of cup because "hot drinks" are my comfort-drinks..even throughout the summer.
I love your cute, honest, thoughtful, creative posts and love you too!!
Have a lovley week my friend..

I don't drink coffee or hot tea but I do love hot chocolate in the winter. My most favorite cup/mug is one I bought at Eskimo Joe's. It isn't really heavy but it is "thick" and hold the heat well. Rather than using the handle I enjoy holding the whole cup with both hands to warm them.

I don't like coffee. I know I'm odd, but it is something for which I was never able to develop a taste. I don't mind an occasional vanilla cappuccino, but the Hubster says that doesn't qualify as coffee. ;)
I do, however, like cups/mugs for my tea or hot cider! I also choose my cup according to my mood. Sometimes I like my chunky, tangerine Fiestaware mug. Other times I like a delicate china cup.

great cups....love the last photo...

I have a slight mug addiction. I walk around with them in the store-I prefer to buy them one at a time as no two mugs should be the same.

I love something that conforms to my hands, that they can wrap around and hug the mug. I like them big, but not bowls, and no saucers for me... that's just asking for the thing to go sliding off and land on the floor. (yes I speak from experience) Although with tea, give me the saucer. ;)

That large white mug . . . the 8th pic down . . . would be the perfect one for me. In fact, that is almost identical to the 5 mugs that we use. Yes, 5 - they were being discontinued at Wally World and 5 was all I could find, luckily there are almost never more than 5 people in this house who need a cup of coffee!

Hope all is well with you, Janean!

Nean,
I have a favorite coffee cup turned into tea cup. We decided about two weeks ago no more coffee during the week-days...arg!!!
I was drinking way too much. So, Sunday morning have become a more special day ~ it's the one day I get to enjoy coffee in the morning using my favorite cup :D Big hug to you my sweet friend, Kimmie ~ check my post for a picture of it :D

I like a thin cup...it doesn't have to be delicate, but I do like it not so thick. I am a tea drinker...wonder if that makes a difference?

I like a big tall mug of coffee since I'm a BIG coffee drinker. On the other hand I also like a nice small cup of espresso on a saucer.

Whew I thought you were going to talk about cups on bra's. :) Coffee cups for me have to be tall and have a great comfortable handle. I have some great pink depression glass ones, and I love them but coffee cools so fast. They are perfect for tea parties though,

Have a great week Janean,

Oh hello Janean!! SO nice of you to stop by my blog! Nice to meet a new friend!! Love YOUR blog as well. And imagine this...I'm a little neurotic about coffee cups and that's what you blogged about! HA! I bought 6 cups at a Goodwill one day just by random that I was in there and just by random they had them! I absolutely love them and they are forbidden to leave my house! My husband has a tendency to take them to school! HA
I'll be back to visit!!

Oh, I am so particular about my cups and mugs! My current is a tallish porcelain mug, not too heavy and fits my hand perfectly! It also has a beautiful bluebird on it! I love the heavier bowled Polish pottery mugs for my homemade cocoa with marshmallows and a sprinkle of cinnamon!

Great pictures ...great blog...I think the one where you can see the Creme & foam is stunning...myself...well I have to admit...I have 4 shots of espresso & steamed milk...b4 7 every morning....so I need a big latte (bowl) cup!...and I have to use a small dessert plate incase of any spill overs!

I love my thin rimmed coffee mug. I purchased it in Ireland and I love starting my morning with my green mug with white sheep all around it. In fact I just returned home from being away for over a week and my coffee this morning tasted great, I knew something wasn't quite right last week, next time I am taking my favorite mug with me.
...........:-)Hugs

My favorite is the green and blue with the frothy whip cream and cinnamon....... Well, maybe it's the whip cram and cinnamon that I want.

I am rather particular about my coffee cups. I prefer a mug ~ not too big and not too small. If it's too big it seems like the coffee is cold before I'm half way done. I also don't like them to be too heavy. Other than that, I'll drink my coffee from anything ~ as long as it's pretty. Of course, that's important too :).
Great post.

Hi Janean,

Great post thanks, love coffee and drink it mostly in a mug.
I drink my tea in a teacup with saucer.
My husband and I have matching mugs, but sometimes one gets broken so we have to buy a new set.

Hope that you are having a lovely week
Hugs

Okay, now my mouth's watering for coffee. I have a nice cup for the morning-medium size. If I drink after supper a small one. What's your favorite brand?

I like those old diner mugs that were alittle thick all over. Something very comforting about them.

I like china mugs! I also drink copious amounts of tea, but not coffee.
It is very important to get a comfortable cup/mug though! Tiny handles cramp your fingers!

Many thinks for your kind comments over at mine. Much appreciated.

For coffee I like sturdy, big mugs (large size for lots of milky froth on top)! For tea I like dainty cups...:)

For my morning coffee, I'm usually a mug person. My afternoon coffee is one from my Nespresso so I use a petit cup. ;-) Love my coffee strong!

I hope you kept your dad's cup...

I like a mug that's like a cup, if that makes sense? More rugged and hefty than a cup, but not clunky and huge either.

Chickens on the cup optional but they do help :-D

something like this: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_orCVZv_Tiew/TEgVIUYHhCI/AAAAAAAAAKI/qPHYaAlTUzI/s1600/DSC_0012.JPG

Love the mugs, but I barely drink coffee. Only 1/2 cup in any mug will do for me in the mornings and even then, it often makes me sick if I drink it on an empty stomach. :P

I'm more particular when it comes to tea - then I have a couple of favorite mugs (not dainty ones) and I love a huge mug of tea. :)

Really depends on my mood. First thing in the am it's a mug because I NEED my coffee and lots of it. Later in the day I might switch to something pretty and use a cup and saucer.

My Mum insisted that tea be served in a china cup... WITH a saucer... I swear, it really does taste better....but my favorite coffee/tea cup is a HUGE Starbucks vintage style cup from the First Starbucks/Pike Place Market, Seattle. I use it every day.

Oh Janean -- 5 in the afternoon and now I want another cup of coffee! Or a bowl, I'm not particular as long as the coffee is good. Well -- a bowl of latte would be good! Just a touch of vanilla.

Have you ever watched the old Brit-Com called Keeping Up Appearances (shows on Sat. on some PBS stations.) There's a lady on it who is nervous when she's around Hyancith, the main character -- she always asks for her coffee in a "beaker" which is British for mug appaarently. She's afraid she'll drop and break the fine china teacups (and she does so frequently). You kind of have to see it!

Hmm...I choose a coffee cup by the handle too. I like a nice comfortable handle that I can fit 4 fingers through. I think I prefer a mug myself....and not too big or too small. Lots to consider here LOL! Enjoy your day.
