I Adore Harvest Tables

I've always wanted a narrow antique harvest table IN the center of the kitchen as a place to eat and prepare food. It reminds me in history, how servants would serve dinner in the formal dining room to the master of the house, but ate  in the kitchen at the *harvest* table. It seems honest, unpretentious and wholesome to me. By definition, a harvest table should be six to eight feet long and usually has hinged drop-leaves and/or drawers. Here are some nice examples. Anyone got one?

I have one as an outdoor table. My dad made it years ago. We can seat ten. It's great for entertaining.

Loved your examples ! (I dont have a room in my house big enough for harvest table inside!)

I just love how rustic this time of year is!

I love harvest tables too. My dad built one for us when I was a little. He made it with a drop leaf on each of the long sides and benches to match. I inherited it when my mom passed away and used it for twenty years. My dad is gone now too and that table is a family treasure. I passed it to my daughter two years ago and I'm sure she will pass it to my granddaughter some day. I have an antique captains chair from my mom that looks exactly like the ones in that last picture too. I only have the one though.

Janean,
I love harvest tables and of course, the last one is my favorite. I do like picture 3 also, with those great ladder back chairs!

Me too! Decorating the table for Thanksgiving is my favorite of all the holidays or occasions.

I'm having a cookbook giveaway at my blog if you're interested.

I like the last image...have always loved Windsor chairs. We have a harvest table up at the lake which is good because we usually have a crowd. We searched high and low for it and it fits perfectly in the great room. I wish it were in the kitchen though, along with a fireplace!! ;-D

Jane

Got on last year for our Montana farm house when we had a storm come through for the family reunion and everyone had to come inside for the week! Sits 10 and it is a butterfly table, ever heard of that..I hadn't but it is very cool and did the trick, glad for that storm!

I was watching a old movie the other day and the harvest table in the kitchen was one giant piece of butcher block. It was fantastic. I love the idea of harvest tables and once I went to this place where the guy refinished furniture and he had the best pieces of old stuff lying around and I would have loved a old harvest table. I love every single picture you have today. I like that last one very much though.
My husband would run away if I ever had a kitchen that looked like that. :) Not a antique lover.
Have a lovely fall day today Janean

One of our old neighbors was heavy into antiques and he had a harvest table made out of butternut from the mid 1800's. It had the most wondeful patina I have ever seen. We moved and he died and they sold everything off...what I would have given to have been at that sale. Hugs- Diana

I love the look too. My aunt has an incredible one, made by my uncle from a large old door. Mine is pretty simple, but I do have an expand-o-matic sideboard. It makes into a long table with a bunch of folding leaves :-)

Marcia

We're still looking for the perfect kitchen table, and in the meantime I keep on using pretty cloths on the rather ugly little table we have.
I'd go for the arrangement in the photo with the two benches - love it!

I don't have one, but I have always wanted a kitchen that was big enough to have a very large table to seat many people. My family always sat around the table after a meal and that's where the conversation continued! I love it!

Hum, I never even heard of a harvest table before... so they're like regular tables only long and narrow?

Love these tables! I have my Mother's table which is 7 feet long, but I do know there is a piece missing to make it another foot longer.
I have been trying to steal out of my hubby's work shop, an old table similar to the first table here. No luck yet! lol

No, I've never had one. I do have a humble little oak drop leaf table (commonly seen in antique malls and thrift shops), which I use currently in one end of my family room for visiting grandchildren, art projects, etc. In the past I used it as a sofa table with the leaves down! I love every harvest table you pictured--I would love to have one! They are so homey!

I adore these photos! We have a table very similar to the one in the 3rd photo - I love the bare wood, the texture makes everything look good against it. And I love the history of the marks and dings that make it our own. Homework etchings and other marks that show a family living around it.

I love harvest tables too! I got the best bargain one year... $250 for a huge table at Hobby Lobby...wasn't even look for one and just came across it! It has all these awesome carvings on the side. Loved all the pics you had of examples!

I love those old pine harvest tables! I wish my kitchen was large enough to hold one of these.
