Valentines 2015

Eons, centuries, ages, many years ago a teenaged couple went on a day-time blind date set up by their best friends (who were dating). 
At the close of the date, they went to a beautiful city park, held hands and talked about everything. It was the beginning of a long and loving relationship. 
Who knew so many years and moves later they would still be married, in love and planning to revisit the same park on Valentines?
I adore this classic G-rated movie!!! Perhaps it's because my hubby is like Redford's character: loving, but more serious and practical. I think I'm a little like Fonda's: more willing for adventure and emotional.
Who are you most like? Fonda, Redford, the patient mom? Or maybe even the bohemian neighbor? Got any Valentines plans?

White Valentine? Why Not!

You know I adore white, so why not have a white Valentine? I wondered if "the Valentine president" (would that be Cupid?) proclaimed 2010 as the year they would entertain a different color to represent Valentine, what would YOUR vote be?

Stupid Expensive...

During this time many people buy gifts for their sweeties (human, furry or feathered). Budget is a personal thing.  Don't you get a kick out of seeing men buy a dozen imported roses for twenty bucks at the corner -- during a red light -- for their Valentine's Day gift?  Here are some 'stupid' expensive gifts.

My question:  Would you rather have quality, quantity, hand-made or truly happy with just the thought? 

Chickies,  thank you for your honest (and kind) opinions on my profile photos. It's like trying on clothes and you want a girlfriend's opinion. "The old me" is back and I'm comfortable with that.

Stupid expensive from the top: Guerlain lipstick $62,000.00 - but it's refillable!  Dussault Trashed Men's Jeans, $250,000.00 a pair;    Essie Cosmetics Platinum Guild Nail Polish, $55,000.00 a bottle,   Peter Aloisson’s Kings Button iPhone – $2.4 million because of the 6.6 carat diamond;  daguerreotype camera dating back to 1839, $779,000.00 for the camera buff.

What Do YOU Love?

 

What do YOU love? Some of us "love" our china and teacups, while others of us "love" the spoons that stir the beverage in them. Some of us "love" cookies or baking, while others of us "love" the chickens who graciously laid the eggs to make the cookies!  Some of us "love" shoes or purses that we work for or work for us. Others "love" creating by hand while others of us "love" using a machine. What do you "love?"  

Whattya Want?

Valentine's Day is drawing near. I'm sure many of you are thinking of something to buy or do for someone. Why not treat yourself? Oh come on! Here are some ideas:  The first is a pretty petal apron (link on photo).  Speaking of petals, you could buy yourself flowers, or better yet, buy a flowering Cherry tree or Pink Dogwood and you'll have flowers every year.  Of course,  the ever-popular decadent chocolates are always nice. Buy or make an Eiffel Tower bag. A couple of blog gals are experimenting with printing their own muslin to make their own bags...perhaps one day some of us will even take a trip to see the real thing! OR do what I did one year:  I got travel videos to all my favorite places and watched it on Valentine's Day!  What are some other gifts you'd like to give yourself? 

Beehive Hair May Be Hazardous!

Since I've had "bees on the brain," it got me thinking about the famous Beehive hairdo! My aunt's beehive hairdo was famous...or rather infamous.  Aunt Alma had flown from California to Missouri to attend a family reunion on July 4, 1966.  That evening one of my little brother's bottle rockets took off...well...like a rocket, right into Aunt Alma's dyed bright red  auburn, plastered well-sprayed beehive! The menfolk dived into her hair rather unceremoniously to retrieve the rocket. All the aunts started yelling to not "mess up her beehive!"  The men were afraid she'd get injured. The women afraid she'd get mad. What would she do until she went to her weekly beauty parlor appointment, for Pete's sake??   My aunts knew beauty can be painful - it's a fact of life - so what's a little bottle rocket compared to her perfectly coiffed hair? Men!    Here are few examples of past and present -- good and bad -- the last was the original beehive do.  Anyone ever have a beehive hairdo? Romantic Women

Doris Day is one of my all-time favorites from the "golden era."  She was feminine without being fussy. Sexy without being slattern. She could be funny or dramatic. She was classy and a classic.  Since Valentine's Day is around the corner I'm going to have a Doris Day fest!  For motherly, fierce love there's Hitchcock's "The Man Who Knew Too Much."  For innocent secret love, the comedy, "Calamity Jane."  For love betrayed, "Midnight Lace," which will have you biting your French manicure.  Look at the contemporary sofa or futon! Decorating Green Acres Style

I watch Green Acres and notice the decor. Am I the only one who does this? I notice movie sets too.  Anyway, on a Green Acres episode I saw beautiful Lisa (who adored a penthouse view) and Oliver (who didn't) had a leopard sofa!  Back then it probably was real leopard, but now we have the technology to print "leopard skin" that looks real.  Even in an all white decor, a little "leopard" can look classy.  I read about a French interior designer who always had a touch of leopard in her home. Here are a few examples of a bench, a dog bed, arm chair, ceramic COOKIE JARS and for the less adventurous, cleaning gloves!  I can see Lisa wearing them...

Dancing Shoes!

"Our sweethearts come in all shapes and sizes. Some of them are even furry or feathered! It doesn't matter if your sweetheart is your spouse, child, grandchild, friend, furry-feathered baby, living, departed or even yourself!  Yes, I think some of us need to love ourselves just a bit more.  Valentine's is a time to focus on LOVE!  My honey and I dance almost every single day.  We're not good and most of the time it's silly, but we snuggle and dance!  I danced with my son when he was little and with my grandbabies until they couldn't be twirled around like a dishrag (which made them squeal with delight)!  So grab your sweetie...furry or otherwise and "cut a rug."
Don't have any other breathing thing to dance with?  Grab a sweater or coat as your partner!  Whether you act silly in front of the mirror or slow dance romantically...just put on your dancing shoes....and DANCE.  Does anyone else like to dance?
