The Old Rectory, La Partie Trois

Part three (and last) about the old rectory...see this and this post for background

When you entered from the front door, you stepped into a very large entry hall. White walls and white painted woodwork, except for the doors. The entry was about eight feet wide, with hardwood floors which were either chestnut or oak stained chestnut color.
To your left, the solid wood pocket doors opened into a very large parlor.  The first thing you saw was a black concert grand piano a few feet away from the floor-to-ceiling window. The only other furnishings were a few chairs in a semi-circle near the piano.  It was stunning, even to a little girl.
Do any of you have pianos?  The photo above is NOT the parlor, but reminded me of it. This is a photo of a music school in the UK. 

The Old Rectory, La Partie Deux

 

Several of you asked me to share more about living in the old rectory (manse or parsonage) for a short time when I was a child.  Click here for the original post.  As you walked into the Living Room from the grand hall, on the right in the corner, was The Fireplace!  It was stucco with a huge custom-made copper shroud or hood, very similar to the top photo (of course, this isn't the actual one).   Within a few days my dad cleaned it back to its original coppery shine.  Then the most enchanting thing happened the first time we burned wood in the fireplace.  As the copper heated up, it began turning shades of deep blue, teal  and green!  It may have been due to the cleaning product he used, but it was fascinating to watch.  The copper was no longer a cold, inanimate metal object, but a warm, responsive, living piece of art.  That began my adoration of copper.  Anyone else have "a thing" for copper?  Do you have it in your home?  I included photos of other FAB copper hoods. In the mosaic, I am smitten by the fireplace in the top right corner of the mosaic.

Aqua Reminds Me Of.....

Isn't this butcher's block FAB? Everyone seem to like them; especially antiques.  i was drawn to this butcher's block because of its aqua color.  

When i was six, my parents and i lived in an old, old rectory (parsonage) where my father was the caretaker for a church. Just three rooms for three short months, but i adored that place - smitten to pieces.  
One reason was that the kitchen and tiny stairway was painted a warm aqua.  It was my first meeting with aqua and it truly agreed with me.  I felt sooo happy surrounded by this color.  Funny thing.  I've never had it in my home since.  Huh.  Maybe in 2010 i'll try something in aqua? At least an apron or SOMEthing!!   What color makes you happy?
