There used to be a popular song by the Archies called, "Sugar Sugar." I just showed my age again....yeah....and while i'm at it, I'm taking a moment to do the Frug, Swim and Mashed Potatoes - all popular dances back then too.
Phew! I'm tired. I've got to catch my breath. That was the longest 90 seconds of my life.
Anyway, the song popped into my head when doing this post on sugar scuttles. I like the last line of the chorus, "...and you've got me wanting you..."
I'd never heard of Sugar Scuttles until Jane over at Blondie's Journal told me about them. And her post has me wanting one!
The closeup shows the little scoop for sugar (it's facing the opposite way of the photo above). The last photo shows a sugar scuttle windchime available at Etsy (photo is linked there). Do you have a traditional covered sugar bowl, an open sugar bowl or a sugar scuttle? Have you ever used tongs or sugar nips with sugar cubes? The tongs below are antiques and the photo is linked to the company selling it.

I have not seen one of those before... the design is so intricate and delicate, I love it! The little scoop is so sweet too, but those tongs are my favourite!
:)
I have never heard of a sugar scuttle and now you've got me wanting one!
I'm right in there with you honey, honey! Let's not forget "Sugar Shack" if we're gonna travel down memory lane!
Love the wind chime made from silver pieces.

So pretty! :) I've never heard of a sugar scuttle but now you have me wanting one, too! I have used tongs for sugar cubes. My uncle is a very proper gentleman who loves fine dining and insists upon china cups and saucers when we share tea. He pulls out the full gold tea set, including the little sugar bowl of cubes. :)
As for the song, believe it or not, I have that one on 45! :) I still have my entire collection of 45s and listen to them from time to time. :)
Janean, you are going to have me hearing Sugar... Ah, Honey, Honey all day! Loved that song! LOL! I think I need to put that on my iPod! That sugar shuttle is devine!
Now those are 'sweet'.. great condition and look at the detail of the edges. I've seen creamers made into windchimes here at local craft shows.. and some day I'll purchase one for the Veranda.
Thanks for the link my dear.. but let me slap ya one as I adore things like these and I've got an itch now!
with love
~Olivia
Oh dear... my song for the day will be "Sugar, Sugar"! My sister and I used to call each other up and even before saying "hello" we would ask, "What's your song for the day?" Glad I loved this song.
AND I can do all of those dances... but would only last half the time you did. You go, girl!
Neat posting.

Not sugar related but...I've made lots of windchimes similar to this one using silverware. We sell them at local craft shows!
This sugar thingy is beautiful!
Now you've got me wanting to search oldies music for my playlist!
:0)
Adore sugar scuttles, and the one you have shown is beautiful. I keep a collection of vintage rhinestone and glass buttons in my scuttle! Thanks for sharing! ~ Angela
I love old silver. My everyday sugar bowl is a covered china one, but the one with the silver tea service is open. My mother has a number of interesting pieces, including a little scoop like you've shown and a 'waste bowl' for loose tea. Such fun to use!
I've seen sugar scuttles before but never knew their proper name. They are certainly lovely!
Now, I don't remember petticoats, but I do remember the Archies!
A sugar scuttle? Sounds like a dance of some sort. I love it made into a windchime.
I have never seen these before. They are absolutely beautiful.
Blessings,
andrea
Janean,
...You are my candy girl...telling by that "fluf another"!
Ah suga, I have all of the above. Except, the fluf stuff of course. I caught up on all your recent posts. You are a pleasure to read.

I remember the song well!
Don't have a sugar scuttle, but those are dandies you have shown!
I had to catch up on your posts! This sugar scuttle is fabulous, love the turqoise petticoat, and yes, fluff is devine. I especially like it with brown sugar and cream cheese with the apples, yummy!
hugs,
Debra
That song of the Archies was my favorite then. I always chose the record on the juke-box.
I have a small bucket in cream enamel for my sugar cubes.
Have a nice week,
Sylvia
Oh...I want one too!!! Sooooo pretty!!!
Enjoy!!!
XOXO
Cathy
Lovely blog you have, I remember that song I was little and I loved the Archies. Also your petticoat post. I remember being 6 and wearing a dress to a wedding and it had the scratchiest netting under it. It was torture to sit in it. Add in the plastic headband and the Geneva Convention could have gotten involved.
Yup I have one its a beauty all silver I found it at an estate sale for are you sitting down...... one dollar !!
Its very similar to the one your showing.
Have a great week
Diane
Adorable! I would love to have that windchime! We use a closed sugar jar, filled with regular granulated sugar. Over in Ireland, I remember that most of the restaurants use sugar cubes with tongs. I wanted to automatically raise my pinkie every time I took a cube! LOL.
I have a sugar scuttle for sale on my Hollowware blog, but it doesn't have the little scoop. A scuttle just adds a little something to a table that you can't reproduce with a sugar bowl!
These are wonderful!!
Janean,
Sugar Scuttle? This is beautiful. Strange thing is I have seen these displayed as "nut dishes". The little scope for nuts. Actually "sugar scuttle" sounds more unique then "nut dish" to be sure. I love this one in silver. I had been looking at them in hand painted china. I collect RS Germany, hand painted roses, china and had seen one on ebay but didn't get it. Boo hoo. For personal we use splenda in little packets. For company always have a sugar bowl. I have my mom's cut glass sugar bowl and creamer. I would love to have this one with the little scoop. The tea rooms Terry and I have visited on our trips have used the little sugar cubes with tongs.
Lynn
That is a beautiful one. I've never had one. I usually use a covered bowl but we don't use much sugar except for baking.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leading me back to yours. I love, love, love your postings. We might just be kindred spirits. Scary, I know.
No, no and no to al three -- but you have open my mind to be looking out for them in the near future. I love them mostly the tongs!
You've got me wanting one of those sugar scuttles now, thanks a LOT, lol!
Those wind chimes are just darling, I can picture one (or two) over my kitchen sink.
You're a very bad influence ;-)
I never heard of a sugar scuttle, but they are absolutely gorgeous!
