Several of you asked me to share more about living in the old rectory (manse or parsonage) for a short time when I was a child. Click here for the original post. As you walked into the Living Room from the grand hall, on the right in the corner, was The Fireplace! It was stucco with a huge custom-made copper shroud or hood, very similar to the top photo (of course, this isn't the actual one). Within a few days my dad cleaned it back to its original coppery shine. Then the most enchanting thing happened the first time we burned wood in the fireplace. As the copper heated up, it began turning shades of deep blue, teal and green! It may have been due to the cleaning product he used, but it was fascinating to watch. The copper was no longer a cold, inanimate metal object, but a warm, responsive, living piece of art. That began my adoration of copper. Anyone else have "a thing" for copper? Do you have it in your home? I included photos of other FAB copper hoods. In the mosaic, I am smitten by the fireplace in the top right corner of the mosaic.

I love old copper pans and have several I like to hang in my kitchen mostly for decoration. My sister sold Coppercraft when I was a teenager and I have lots of it. Before we neutralized the house for selling, my half bath had a copper metallic painted ceiling and I hung copper trays on the wall with a lovely old style picture that had coppery tones. It was so beautiful and I really miss it.
I love those copper fireplace hoods that you've shown. It would be so cool to have one over a kit stove!!

I LOVE copper! It is beautiful and can add so much character to a home. Unfortunately the only copper I have is a set of copper molds (like gelatin or aspic molds) that used to hang in my mother's kitchen. She took them down years ago and I asked for them to put in my kitchen. Funny how we sometimes gravitate to the decor of our childhoods, isn't it? At the time I paid no attention to those old molds hanging there. Once I was out on my own, I became somewhat sentimental about them. :)
Janean, I've never seen cooper fireplace hoods before. I love that one in the upper right hand corner best also.
I don't have any copper in my home but years ago bought some at auction for my daughter who was collecting it at the time.
I know a copper bowl is wonderful to make meringue.There is a chemical reaction between the copper and egg.

I've always been drawn to copper. I think part of the reason is that the Price Tower, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, is in my hometown. It has huge copper louvers that shade some of the windows. Over the years they have developed the most beautiful patina.
I use to have several copper decorative pots around. I think they are out in the garage. I guess I better get them out!

I never had a copper fire place hood, or a Mora clock. If given the choice I would pick the clock.
My husband has a Jura coffee maker. I figure in the two years since I gave it to him he has it paid for. It is the most expensive Christmas gift I have ever given him.
I too love tulips. One fall I planted 100 white tulips. Since then I have planted some colored ones to add to the spring gardens. My favorite everyday dishes are the red tulip pattern by Nicholas Mosse. Someday I hope to have a complete set.
I like to clean in the winter months. Spring is for being outdoors not cleaning.
Our kitchen, eating area, and entry are painted a warm gray. I find it interesting that gray is a color that is gaining popularity.
I loved my petticoats. Mine were white and I envied the girls with the 50 yard ones, as I recall mine were 25 yards. I think I wore two at a time. My Mom must have gone almost crazy starching them for three young girls.
I eat marshmallow cream straight from the jar, in my hot chocolate, and on fruit soup. I try to limit myself to one jar a year.
My latest vice is to make homemade marshmallows. They are great and I took pictures for a post in the near future.
