Monday Moonstruck, Eggs in a Nest and Tiles

I liked the movie, "Moonstruck." How wonderful was the Castorini's  4,160 square-foot Federal style Brownstone in Brooklyn Heights which was built in 1839 (pictured below). It's been reported to have sold for between $4-5 million. No wonder I like it!  Did anyone else adore the huge kitchen?  When "Rose" cooked the Eggs in a Nest I got soooo hungry.  A good kitchen can make anything taste better, cant' it? Note the white subway tile and glass front cabinets? White marble tiles and white frosted tile options are below. Any other Moonstruck fans or "Eggs in a Nest" fans?

I haven't seen Moonstruck in years. Now I want to watch it again, just to see the kitchen. I also don't remember the "eggs in a nest", but you picture above makes me hungry and it is 3:00 in the morning. Love subway tile too, and have it in my kitchen, but have never seen it in marble....beautiful.
Janean, just wanted to say that I love that everytime I come to visit you have a new post that I enjoy reading. I aspire to be more like you this year.

Oh Janean, you've no idea what you've done. That is my all time favorite movie....I seriously could practically act the entire movie myself! Your egg in the hole toast looks awesome! 'your life is goin' down the toilet!'

I watch Moonstruck all the time here.. Olivia Dukakis is sooo much like my dear Mother in-law.. from her looks to her mannerisms.. down to a 'T'. We use to call those 'haybailers' in Chicago. Thick bread, poached eggs and a very light sprinkle of cheese on the top.

And that house.. yes part of our American history that I hope will be around for many years come.

with love,

Olivia

Hi Janean,
Loved the movie, so perfectly cast - it's part of our home collection. Of course, I love the house too. It would be so fun to have a home in NYC, but I'd have to be a millionaire! We watch the movie on Valentine's Day. - Julie

I haven't seen the movie, but now I would like to .
I also never knew exactly what a brown stone house was. It is beautiful. I guess you can tell I haven't gotten far from the Ozarks.
Eggs in a nest, that I know about. Yummy.

Oh, oh! We call them 'toad in the hole' - I see someone else does! My dear grandma used to make these for us. I still make them on occasion for our family. I love the thick luscious bread as pictured. Will try that :-p It's been years since I watched Moonstruck. Sorry to say I don't remember a thing about it. Maybe I'll revisit. Thanks! -Tammy

Moonstruck is such a cool love story ~ One I really enjoyed. "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" would be another one that is good to see. The tile is very beautiful ~ like wow!

I love Moonstruck! When the family sits down for breakfast toward the end of the movie, it's like a scene from my parent's house on any given Sunday! LOL

As Cher said to Nicholas Cage "Snap out of it" Excellent movie, great, great house. I could live there, but I would have to make my eggs scrambled!

okay, I'm sooooooo enjoying your favorite lines from the movie. i have several, but one i laugh at every time. Rose to her FIL: "Old man, you give those dogs another piece of my food and I'm gonna kick you 'til you're dead!" Morbid? Yes. But the way she says it in the middle of her other sentence.

Also like "You're a wolf!"

I can't remember if I've seen the whole movie but I know I've seen parts of it. Love the tile and we used to call that dish "eggs in a frame". No matter the name, they're wonderfully delicious.

I loved the movie, don't remember the eggs in a nest yet I have seen it a dozen times. Loved the kitchen. I've been telling my husband about the subway tiles and he thinks they are ugly. I love them and want to use them somewhere someday. I would have used them 3 years in this house but didn't really know about them for decorating then!

So delicious-looking and cozy too. Having a big kitchen with enough space to accomodate family, friends, good food...all so wonderful!

How do you take it the Eggs in a Nets? Really look like it. I would like to make this lovely food for breakfast. Please, write the recipe. Thank you very much!

Janean said...

I was asked for the recipe. You'll want "Texas Toast" or 1 inch thick slice of bread. 1 Tablespoon of butter or margarine. 1 large egg.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Cut 1 1/2-inch hole out of bread.
2. In a frying pan on medium heat melt the butter until it foams. Add the bread slices.
3. Crack an egg into a cup to make sure there are no egg shells, then pour into bread hole.
4. Salt and pepper to taste.
5. Cook until egg sets up, about 3 minutes. Flip and repeat.

Did I leave anything out, gals?

I've never had eggs in a nest and now am very curious! Will have to google for a recipe...

I make my own bread (ok the machine does it, but still!) and the hens lay plenty of eggs every day so it must be written in the stars!

ps: looove the kitchen :)

Hi Janean!
OMG Moonstruck is definitely one of my favorite movies! I never cease to laugh myself silly! My family thinks I'm a nut for so adoring it! We call them bread with a hole in the middle here! Simple but yummy! Now I'm so embarrassed cause as many times as I've seen the movie I can't remember them eating it, seriously! Thanks for the home info, I too loved it! My favorite aside from the kitchen was the great foyer! Lori

Thank you so much for stopping by, Janean and for leaving a comment. How did you find me?

I can say this about Martin - everyone liked him - men, women, children, young, old, or in between. He had a way with people. So many of the sympathy cards I received from women he had worked with or who knew him contained the word "gentleman" when they wrote about him. He thought women were far superior to men and once wrote "I believe women are limitless in their diversity and divine in their concept." I never forgot that.

Your blog is lovely. I'm sure I will be back again to visit.

Huge kitchens are a MUST for Italian familys like the Castorinis! All entertaining, important discussions and discussions are made in the kitchen.

My favorite quote from the movie? "Get over it."
