Laid Out in Lavender

We grew lavender in our Georgian back yard. In fact, it thrived in its sunny location. Though I adored the way it looked, I never particularly cared for the scent though many of my friends loved it. In fact the phrase, "laid out in lavender," refers to the old custom of using it in burials.
This week we finally had a day over 50 degrees and my mind wandered back to those beautiful plants. Here are a few examples of lavender in different shades and applications. Any lavender lovers? Anyone growing lavender in their gardens or have it in their homes? Photos: Lavender and white bedroom; Lavender Willow plate; Lavender chandelier; Field of Lavender; Lavender and Sweetpea wreath; Lavender bag; Lavender Cupcakes; Lavender ballet flats and Lavender cat.

  2. I love the pastel color of lavendar. It always reminds me of Easter time for some reason... I don't praticularly care for the scent either. a little strong, and yet I love gardenia which other people don't like...so go figure...
I adore the last pic with the cat in it, and those cupcakes look yummy! Reaching in to get one...
Lavendar is lovely to see all bundled up and hanging... Thanks again for a wonderful morning post.

  3. Awwww, Janean, I love the kitty in the leaves. She or he looks like my cat I had at home, Greta Garbo. I found her under a trailor in a nearby town, her Mother had been killed by a car. She was about as big as a mouse. I took her home and we fed her with a toy bottle. She lived to be 21. Alot of the time she, "vanted to be alone..." hence her name. Thanks for another memories with your posts.

  5. Love the wreath! So refreshing! I enjoy the scent when it is used sparingly. I just bought a hand lotion for at the kitchen sink that is a mixture of lavender and vanilla. It smells a lot like baby lotion...love it...again, when used sparingly. I also have a lavender linen spray which is really helpful for the relaxing of my muscles and allows a good night's sleep. The bedspread on our bed is a combination of lavender and pastel green...the shams are lavender and the sheets! I'm beginning to realize just how much I like lavender...both color and scent! ~wink~

  8. I can smell it now, lavender is a very calming relaxing smell. I love the color purple, I am carrying a big purple purse that can practically fit the kitchen sink in! Such a great color. I have to say I love that light. I think it would look neat above the tub!

  9. Hi Janean....I LOVE lavender! I don't have any here at the farm yet but I plan on planting some this year. Just a whiff of the stuff brings back memories of my grandmother who used to keep it in a little wicker basket in her underwear drawer. I love the pictures...makes me want to use it in my home. I hope you have a wonderful day...take care. Maura

  18. I love, love, love lavendar. I have a spray bottle beside my bed and every night before I turn on the bedside lamp I give the bulb a spray of lavendar water. Sometimes I spray my pillow too. I swear it encourages a better sleep.

  19. I love lavender - the plants, the scents, and the color. And yes, I have several lavender plants growing in MY Georgia yard!

I also have my guest room decorated in lavender, sage, white and a bit of purple. I call it my 'grandma's room', partly because I have so many momentos of both of my grandmothers in there, and partly because the decor is so grandmother-y.

  26. I love lavender, but it's so hard to grow in central Texas due to the humidity. Every year I buy a new plant and treat it like an annual!
I've never seen the Lavender Willow china, it is simply beautiful!

  28. I had lavender in my flower bed out front, but the bees became such an issue I had to pull it all out! :( Think I'll find another spot, far from where the kids play, and plant some more of it. It is so pretty.

My guest room is painted lavender. :) One of my favorite rooms in the house. :)

  36. Oh, I love lavender. My husband and I did our internship in college on a cut flower farm in Oregon, right on the coast and they had the most beautiful lavender fields. That one picture reminds me of it. LOVE the fragrance too ;) Those flats with the ruffly flowers are fab!

  40. Love Lavender! Guess because it's the sister to pink and I love pink. My dear friend Heather is passionate about lavender(purple). So when I see these photos I think of her. In fact, the bedroom looks much like her bedroom looked when we were young girls. Except her bed was a canopy, but the fabric was the same.

I can't wear lavender, but I love to see lavender. A happy, spring time color.
