"Pearing" Down

As my honey and I begin to pare down, it got me thinking of p-e-a-r-s. I like their look, smell, touch and flavor. They seem humble to me somehow...not bright like an orange, exotic-furry like a kiwi or loud like a crunchy apple. I offer some examples of the humble pear. Any advice for paring down stuff? We've accumulated many "treasures," and am finding it a little challenging to choose between them. What's your opinion of The Pear? Photos: Pear Botanical; Pear Clock; Pear Centerpiece; Pear-colored leather Loveseat; Pear-shaped chandelier; Pear Ice cream; Pear hand-crafted table and Pear Tree Inn.

  3. What at a lovely post.
I have pear fabric on a chair in my family room and I like decor that features pears.
As far as paring down, this is something that my husband and I plan to do once our house is sold.
But with the housing market the way it is, it might be a long time.

    Good luck with your downsizing.

    hugs

  4. Thank you for your visit yesterday. I just love going to The Cheesecake Factory!

I think pears are humble, too. But they sure do taste great! ;) A friend made some pear honey a couple years ago, and it was really good. Pears must be treated carefully or they'll get bruised...but definitely worth all the extra attention!

I love the pictures~my favorites are the ice cream and Pear Tree Inn. It makes me think of relaxing, reading, and just spending time with my sweet Hubbie!

    Have a great Thursday!

  5. A pear, when I stop and think about it...to me it's refreshing with a delicious grainy texture and it's fragrance is not overbearing but sweet and subtle.
Golly, thank you, there is so much in my life that I don't give thought to and doing this has made realize at how much I take for granted instead of appreciating what I have been given and seeing the beauty in what is right in front of me. I have so much to be thankful to God for. This is a wow, moment in time. Thank you :)
Have a super sweet day :)
    Hugs

  8. Ahhh...pears! My FAVORITE ...no make that my VERY FAVORITE fruit! Pears are scrumptious by themselves, or when they blend themselves with other fruits/veggies in recipes such as, Gingered Pear and Butternut Squash Soup or Pear and Plum pie! :)

  9. It is hard to part with our treasures, I know! We have been whittling down our possessions for 3 years now and we'll be doing some more. I try to keep in mind that I have used sometime and enjoyed it; now it is time to pass it on to some other soul who will find beauty and delight in the item as well.

I love that picture of the Pear Tree Inn. It looks very much like a place that we stayed at in Ireland many years ago!

  11. I am NOT pear shaped...I am the person with all the "belly fat" that envies those of you with the pear shape.

Hope you are having a wonderful day...thank you for all your sweet comments on arise 2 write.

  13. I LOVE pears! They are so often ignored in decor in favor of apples and pineapples. And come to think of it, they're often ignored in the kitchen as well! I love a good pear. Sweet and juicy and crisp. My sister has a pear tree in her yard, a very OLD pear tree, and while I don't know the variety I do know that they're at their very peak of flavor after the first frost hits. Talk about yummy!

Paring down has been running through my head for quite some time, too. I'm tired of clutter and I'm tired of stuff. Think I'm headed down the same path you are taking. Perhaps we'll meet along the way! ;)

  14. Pears . . . hmmm . . . I think they are great with some buttery brie and nutty wheat crackers.

They are also lovely in decor!

  15. I love the little table with pears underneath! Very sweet and I do love to eat pears. As far as pearing down...that has been very difficult for me! But my girlfriend, Kaila told me to let my 'treasures' be a blessing for someone else and you know....that really helps! I bless someone else with a favorite item that I don't have room for and it all works out for the best. I am pretty good at cramming a lot of stuff into a small space though! lol !!!

  17. I love the botanical print and pear ice cream sounds so good! We want to plant a fruit producing tree this year and a pear tree is at the top of our list.

  19. When I was painting our laundry room I tried to describe the colour I wanted as 'like an unripe pear' but no one understood!
As far as paring down goes - I've done my best, but The Great Dane doesn't think that this applies to anything in the garage!

  20. I, too, am drawn to the shape of the pear. Its shape offers such wonderful organic lines and the color variations are splendid. We've many pear forms around our home, some wood, some stone, some ceramic. All delights to the eye. Thank you for sharing these. The handmade table is the best! Is this in your home? I'd love more details on this piece.

  22. Good Morning Janean....I love pears too. Great pictures but I especially love the last one of the English cottage. They are just so cozy looking don't you think? And I bet that's a pear tree out front. Hope you have a wonderful day....Maura

  23. Pears are a unique looking fruit. Course no woman wants to hear someone saying she is pear shaped...YIkes!
I love the chandy and THAT table...so awesome, and I would absolutely say I would try pear icecream even though I just don't like the grainy texture of pears...I wouldn't give it to my babies because of that - only applesauce baby food. Thanks for the lovely post.

  24. I am in love with your photos today. I began the 'paring down' process a few years ago and I love the simplicity of it all.

  25. Pears are understated sometimes unnoticed, but quietly fill their post. (may I be as a pear):)
We too have been "pearing" down. Started earlier in the winter and just a little at a time. We just enjoy the memories of how much we enjoyed the item and if we can, we pass it on to someone else to enjoy or as with much of our treasures, we tend to love the life right out of them and they are ready to be retired! There's a freedom in this in a strange sort of way!

  26. We love to eat them. I also collect some pear items. I have a few dishes and S&P shakers. I think they work well in decorating.

  27. I like your pears. As to paring down, I find giving things away makes me feel great. I pass them along to loving homes and feel good about letting them go. Plus, who doesn't like a present. Maybe you can take some of your better, more gently used treasures and have a blog giveaway.

  28. I love pears, and put them in my salad greens when in season. Love'm poached, too...oh, with ice cream, of course.

  29. nice pear photos...I like to look at pears...just never been a fan of eating them...except for my Nana's pear butter....

  30. I find "paring down" to be very difficult. I will start to toss something and here comes a memory with it and it's so hard to toss, whether its to another home or just out the door. Good luck in paring!

  31. That leather loveseat is to DIE for! wow! Good find!

I wish I could eat pears as I love their smell and taste, alas the gritty texture is a big no-no, it's like eating bits of sand - yeccchh!

I admire them from afar though :-)

  36. Thanks for stopping by to see me at my blog Paring Down. This is my mission in life - to simplify, minimize (both my stuff and myself!), and enjoy the things I really want to spend my time and attention on instead of taking care of "stuff."

Thanks for stopping by to see me. Love your Sweetwater Cottage!
