She walked right up to my desk. Once I tore my eyes off of this beautiful creature's face and hair, I noticed on her starched white collar, three little ladybug stick pins. "Those...are...so...pretty," I stammered. I felt like a horrid clod in comparison with her loveliness and poise.
She smiled a sincere perfect smile and answered, "Thank you! I love them. I think they're so feminine!" Her shiny brown hair bounced and her sparkling brown eyes looked directly at me.
I couldn't think of anything else "clever" to say. So I studied my desktop and she moved on. Not one of my most suave moments. I've remembered that day all these many years. So today I'm celebrating the Ladybug! Any other ladybug aficionados? ReplyDeleteI really like the ladybugs on the front of the dresser (?) in what I am thinking is a potting shed. I would definitely feel comfortable in that scene. Now...if only I had a potting shed. ~smile~

ReplyDeleteI love ladybugs too. They are so bright and cheerful for such a tiny little beetle. I love it when I see a red VW beetle going down the road with Black polka dots painted on it. Too cute.
I have also heard of more than one person who has a terrible fear...a phobia??? of these little bugs...
Never understood why! Maybe because when they get inside they can be a terrifying looking bunch to a child. (similar to all the blackbirds/crows in Alfred Hitchcock's movie "The Birds" Uhh. (It's a wonder somebody didn't do a ladybug horror movie.)
I love the ladybugs most for their busy little tasks to get rid of the aphids on our tomato plants. My kids and I were doing a garden unit for homeschooling one year, and we went to the little hardware and got a package full of ladybugs and let them out in our gardens. (I know, some people are thinking we are crazy right about here....!)

Ladybugs are supposed to be lucky too. I just always think I'm lucky to see one. I used to call our daughter "Ladybug" because I was so lucky to have her.

ReplyDeleteI love lady bugs and have many in different forms. Ladybugs are a symbol of good luck in China so I started collected them as we wait for time to get our granddaughter from China.
ReplyDeleteI know about the swarming ones in the fall, but they aren't a true ladybug but some type of a beetle and are more orange than red. We have those here in the Ozarks as well.
Oh yes, I'm a ladybug fan too. There's a little shop not to far from here where I can find lots of little ladybug items and I like to use them in springtime decorating.

ReplyDeleteOh yes! Ladybugs in the garden are a most welcome sight! Ladybugs in the house...not so much! But...I try to be very careful with them and scoop them up and shoo them out!

Lady bugs are so cute. I remember as a kid we would always say a little chant something like "Lady bug, lady bug, fly away home. Your house in on fire and your children all alone." Now that I think about it, it sure isn't a very nice chant. LOL

ReplyDeleteMy neighbor's little girl has lots of ladybugs in her room. (not real ones, decorations.)
I don't really have ladybug items in my home, but I love ladybugs, too cute. And, the swarming kind are not the nice ladybugs, they are asian lady beetles that were not indigenous to the US until they were introduced to control the aphid population. They have no natural predator here (probably because they stink)so they have become a major pest.

I take nature photos and one of my favorite subjects is lady bugs. I bought several books on insects and was surprised to find out how many varieties there are of lady bugs!
ReplyDeleteThey are fun to watch outside, but not inside! My oldest son had an infestation of them last fall that looked like something from an Alfred Hitchcock movie!
We love lady bugs here and consider them lucky! My mom always had us wish on them and after she passed, it seem we would see them much more often! My children consider it a "sign" from grandma!

ReplyDeleteOh what a memory that will be for you all your life. And the ladybug will always have a meaning for you. When we moved into our home, our shed had a nest of ladybugs. There were hundreds of them.
ReplyDeleteI used to love them... Now they just remind me of those other beetles that are everywhere! I saw one in my bathroom today while I was in the shower. They don't take time off for winter!
