Musical Chairs...
I love to hear an acoustical guitar played well. I want to hear the fingers slide on the stings and the thumb hit the guitar body occasionally as an accent. My brother is an amazing guitarist. My two favorite things to hear played are classical and flamenco! I'm focusing on Old Spanish Decor. When I think Old Spanish, I think of tiled roofs, stucco, rich colors and wrought iron. Do any of you play guitar? Do you have a Spanish influence in your home?

ReplyDeleteNo spanish influence in either of my homes, but I do love the homes in the Beverly Hills area with that style. The older homes from the 20's with the red tiled roofs are beautiful. Going there to see the homes is one of my favorite trips we take.
Um, no. I find Spanish decor a bit heavy for my tastes. I love the colors in moderation, but the 'stuff' is just a bit much for my tastes.
ReplyDeleteBut as a side note, we were out riding in northern GA a few weeks ago, in farm country full of pastures and such, and topped a rise and looked out in the distance to see what looked like a Spanish farm - they had even planted palms all around (not good in our part of the state) and had a barn with a bell tower. It was lovely, but looked so out of place!
Yes I do love accoustical...way more than electric. I have some cd's I love to play that are a blend of guitar and other instruments. And I have thought many a time, still considering putting the clay/brick colored tile down in the kitchen. We do have a guitar in my second son's room. He doesn't play it very often. There's a lot of Spanish influence that touches our decorating cycles in the US, even though I don't think people notice it. Thanks for a lovely post! hugs
ReplyDeleteMy son plays the guitar, but I don't play any instrument. I took piano when my children were young, but decided that was not my thing. I just stick to singing! ha! I do have a wrought iron bed in my home.

ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of old Spanish style, but can appreciate it in Mexico and in the missions of California. Once in a while, in a Pacific Northwest neighbourhood one will see a white house with red tiled roof - makes me smile as I think of someone who was tired of our grey and rainy winters, trying to recreate a bit of sunny Mexico. I find that it just doesn't translate well here.

ReplyDeleteNo on both questions. However our house in Illinois was very old and had original stucco inside walls not just plasterboard with stucco on it.

ReplyDeleteWe see alot of Spanish influence here in California, especially in the building designs. Lots of old Spanish mission style. I married a surfer though, so our home is more cottage/beach style :-) We have guitars though!

I love Spanish styles, but we don't see much of it here in Kansas...
ReplyDeleteArthritis took the joy out of playing. My guitar stood abandoned until a few months ago when my oldest granddaughter decided to take lessons. I gave it to her. Honestly, there's a tiny part of me that hopes she losses interest and gives it back; but mostly I'm glad I had someone to pass it down to.
ReplyDeleteI love acoustic guitar too, my personal favorite to hear is a 12 string acoustic. To me it's like hearing a choir of voices.

Hubby plays guitar and had been a worship leader for 30 years. He still gives me butterflies every time he plays. As for a Spanish influence in our home, that would be me. My maiden name was Casas. Ole!
