Going Dutch

Some very sweet friends sent me a bouquet of white tulips recently. You all know how car-razy i am about white! I adore tulips too because they remind me of Holland, wooden shoes and those beautiful starched, white bonnets the Dutch wore in the past (especially the ones with big "wings"). Does anyone know if they still make those?

So, what's your favorite flower and why?  Below is a Pennsylvania Dutch chair-flip-table (no, it's not mine -  it's sold. *sigh*). Below that is a cupboard that is in a perfect setting, in my opinion...those walls have me squealing with delight. Note the hand painted TULIPS on the crock.

  1. My favorite flower? I would have to say the rose but there are just so many beautiful flowers it's hard to choose! Your banner is gorgeous! Also love the Pennsylvania Dutch table and hutch! Lovely treasures! Thanks for sharing and have a HAPPY DAY! Coralie

  2. Those little Japanese Iris. Or the big Siberian Iris. I'll take either one if your sending them! I love how soft the centers look. Like velvet. And the Japanese are my fave color combination in the world. Vibrant yellow surrounded with purple. sigh. Is it spring yet?

  6. I love all zinnas and heavenly blue morning glories.

I love the cabinet and the crock and the rug on the floor. It is all just perfect.

  7. A favorite flower? Asking a gardener that is like asking a mother who her favorite child is. A few would be the palest pink roses, the most fragrant lilacs, the fullest peonies. I also love tulips, buckets of them.

    I never met a flower I didn't like.

  11. Being married to a Dutchman, I should know more dutch customs, but his family wasn't that involved. We live near a Dutch Community where all the holidays are celebrated with dutch festivities. On May 1st, the children wear their traditional dress and come out to wash the streets!!! They all wear their wooden shoes and then clog dance after the streets are cleaned. Many of the women still make those hats you asked about.

  13. I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite flower. For me I suppose its the one that is showing it's beauty and splendor at the time God ordained it too.

  17. The tulips have already started to appear in the corner groceries up here - not local flowers but lovely, nonetheless. I love yellow and pink tulips together - they say 'spring' to me.

  20. White tulips are a big fave of mine, especially if you can find them in the summer...just in a vase alone. But Daisies are my very favorite flower. So simple, again, alone in a vase.

LOVE the cabinet. I could have them in every room of my house!!

Have a great week, Janean! :-)

  24. Those white tulips are beautiful. Boy do they ever say "Spring" in the midst of Winter. My favorite flower, ahhhh very light pink baby roses from my hubby. Otherwise, my love of so many flowers will not allow me to pick a favorite. I do love "wildflowers" in fields. Always make me smile, so free to just be themselves.
    Blessings,
    Lynn

  28. Hi Janean, thanks for visiting my blog. Yes Malta is where the apostle Paul was shipwrecked. Thanks for stopping by. I love your blog. Hard to say what my favourite flower is but right now I would have to say hydrangeas, more so because they remind me a grandfather I never met who used to grow beautiful white ones in his small garden.
BTW, my husband is from Missouri. Small world.

  29. Another year! :) I had to smile at your comment about your brother. Poor little Alex was just about three when tradgedy stuck..it really wasn't funny..zippers can be deadly to a little guy or to one of 7 as with my next to oldest son. To have to have mom help was horrible for him! :) And now both are married! How time flies!
    Mona :)

  31. O those tulips are lovely! How nice of your friends :) You took very nice pictures of them.
That last photo with the cupboard just does me in, I would love to have a little cottage looking exactly like that on the inside. So pretty :)

  32. Hi Janean! I love the rustic country look too...that cabinet is so beautiful! Up here in Canada it seems there are few stores that really get creative like they do in the USA! I enjoy the little towns of LaConner and Lynden, WA ~ they are both very dutch influenced and the stores and cottages are so sweet!

Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a sweet comment. You have a lovely spot here...such pretty pictures!

    Blessings,
    Camille

  33. Hello Janean,
I love white tulips too. I think you mean the bonnets as they wear in Zeeland (a part of Holland). Now only the elder woman still wear them.
    Have a nice week,
    your dutch blogfriend Antonia
