Phew! I'm tired. I've got to catch my breath. That was the longest 90 seconds of my life.
Anyway, the song popped into my head when doing this post on sugar scuttles. I like the last line of the chorus, "...and you've got me wanting you..."
I'd never heard of Sugar Scuttles until Jane over at Blondie's Journal told me about them. And her post has me wanting one!The closeup shows the little scoop for sugar (it's facing the opposite way of the photo above). The last photo shows a sugar scuttle windchime available at Etsy (photo is linked there). Do you have a traditional covered sugar bowl, an open sugar bowl or a sugar scuttle? Have you ever used tongs or sugar nips with sugar cubes? The tongs below are antiques and the photo is linked to the company selling it.
I have not seen one of those before... the design is so intricate and delicate, I love it! The little scoop is so sweet too, but those tongs are my favourite!

So pretty! :) I've never heard of a sugar scuttle but now you have me wanting one, too! I have used tongs for sugar cubes. My uncle is a very proper gentleman who loves fine dining and insists upon china cups and saucers when we share tea. He pulls out the full gold tea set, including the little sugar bowl of cubes. :)

ReplyDeleteNow those are 'sweet'.. great condition and look at the detail of the edges. I've seen creamers made into windchimes here at local craft shows.. and some day I'll purchase one for the Veranda.

Oh dear... my song for the day will be "Sugar, Sugar"! My sister and I used to call each other up and even before saying "hello" we would ask, "What's your song for the day?" Glad I loved this song.

Not sugar related but...I've made lots of windchimes similar to this one using silverware. We sell them at local craft shows!

ReplyDeleteI love old silver. My everyday sugar bowl is a covered china one, but the one with the silver tea service is open. My mother has a number of interesting pieces, including a little scoop like you've shown and a 'waste bowl' for loose tea. Such fun to use!

Lovely blog you have, I remember that song I was little and I loved the Archies. Also your petticoat post. I remember being 6 and wearing a dress to a wedding and it had the scratchiest netting under it. It was torture to sit in it. Add in the plastic headband and the Geneva Convention could have gotten involved.

Adorable! I would love to have that windchime! We use a closed sugar jar, filled with regular granulated sugar. Over in Ireland, I remember that most of the restaurants use sugar cubes with tongs. I wanted to automatically raise my pinkie every time I took a cube! LOL.
ReplyDeleteI have a sugar scuttle for sale on my Hollowware blog, but it doesn't have the little scoop. A scuttle just adds a little something to a table that you can't reproduce with a sugar bowl!

ReplyDeleteSugar Scuttle? This is beautiful. Strange thing is I have seen these displayed as "nut dishes". The little scope for nuts. Actually "sugar scuttle" sounds more unique then "nut dish" to be sure. I love this one in silver. I had been looking at them in hand painted china. I collect RS Germany, hand painted roses, china and had seen one on ebay but didn't get it. Boo hoo. For personal we use splenda in little packets. For company always have a sugar bowl. I have my mom's cut glass sugar bowl and creamer. I would love to have this one with the little scoop. The tea rooms Terry and I have visited on our trips have used the little sugar cubes with tongs.

That is a beautiful one. I've never had one. I usually use a covered bowl but we don't use much sugar except for baking.
