Sunset Decor

Autumn and Winter have amazing sunsets, don't they? As I stood transfixed by one lovely sunset, I thought, "I'd never use red and turquoise together in decor. It's....too....strong, clashy-ish, bold....too....gaudy. Or is it? It's so beautiful in a sunset, but in a living room?" Well, I found some photos (including a vintage piece of fabric) that made me change my mind and a few that just made me happy. Have you used red and turquoise in the same room?

  7. Janean,

I haven't used these hues together and often times thought the same things you have. But now that you point out that they are the same shades in the sunsets that take my breath away I will certainly consider it. Hoping you are enjoying your autumn!

  8. Great examples.
Yes I am like you wouldn't think of it until I see it done, and really like it. It is popular all over the quilting community.

  16. Hello Janean!
I love the two colors together although I don't own anything or have decorated anything with the two together. You see that in Southwestern decorating and jewelry. Great photo's. I hope you're having a wonderful weekend.

  17. I think the colors are very complimentary! The more orangey shades of red with the turquoise especially! The sunset photo is incredible, and I love that darling snail pillow too!

I just did a post on my guest room done in shade of deep reds and blues(not really turqouise) but inspired by a quilt my Mama made for me. I sure hope it doesn't look gaudy, Yikes!

I've also got a thing for orange and green together now too, love it! lol!

    Hugs, Sherri:)

  24. Never really thought about it but they do go together. In fact, I just remembered I have a necklace with turquoise and reddish/orange! Never used turquoise in my decorating but it sure is getting popular I think! You always find the most fabulous pictures to use on your blog. Where in the world do you find them all?

  25. No I have never used red and turquoise together but would you believe I saw Joan Rivers dressed in a red blazor with turquoise accessories and she looked great and well matched......:-) Hugs

  26. I love the vintage fabric, the colors looks so pretty together. Still, God has a way of putting them together better than anything we can do, that last photo shows it :-) We get some beautiful sunsets here in the desert too.

  27. Wow! What an interesting post Janean.
I wouldnt have thought of those two together, but amazing how they go perfectly in a sunset..and quite nicely in the others photos too.
My living room has pops of turquoise in it with mostly white, but I have been thinking about introducing apricot in through some dried roses, and fabric. I saw those two colours together in a picture I purchased a few years ago which was a country porch scene and loved the way they go together.
As a matter of fact, Im off to sew the little craft this day... Ill show you them together when Im done!
Thanks for this "thought-provoking" post. Really amazing!

    Happy Monday to you Janean!

    Deborah xoxo

  28. Funny you should mention it. I just saw red, brown and turquoise mixed together at Pier 1 and fell in love with it. I'm working on changing out my summer green to turquoise for the fall in my living room. I love the the contrast.
