I'm talkin' burlap! The stuff was still in the bag I purchased several months ago. I meant to use it, but now can't remember how. Even though it's messy to work with, I adore it...especially after it gets soft from use. Oh wait! Maybe it was to make a scarecrow face for the garden? Anyone have a scarecrow?? Here are some neat things you can make with humble burlap. Burlap drapes; Burlap Ottoman - online; Burlap lamp shade - Pottery Barn; Burlap Chair - Restoration Hardware; Burlap Placemat - craft; Burlap Jacket - Elderberry Designs Online; Burlap Table Cover - Pottery Barn; Burlap Potpourri - Southern Living; Burlap Sofa and finally where it began...I think Juan Scarecrow-Valdez and I will go get a burlap sack-full of coffee.
I've been seeing burlap all over the place lately. So cool to see someideas of what to with it. I'm not sure about the drapes though...

It's so funny how trendy it has become and I'm fully convinced this has something to do with baby boomers and our many years in Bible School craft time. Growing up our house always had things like a burlap table runner, burlap covered pencil holder, burlap placemats, etc. I'm with you, I love it.

Of course I love burlap, especially making burlap pillows and runners. I am so in love with that mercury glass lamp with the burlap shade. I might try and make a shade!

Ijust purchased a couple of yards of a lite and a dark tan burlap and i am going to use as a cuff at the top of christmas stockings, now I will have to go buy more, and try somthing else, love it! Sue
ReplyDeleteI was using burlap when burlap wasn't cool. Not in my house though, for my classroom bulletin boards. Never had to change out the background all year. It's neutral and durable. Not sure where I'd use it in my house but I like seeing everyone's creations. Can't wait to see yours.

I love burlap! When I decorated my little guy's nursery a few years ago (can't believe my baby is EIGHT!) it had a farmyard theme. I chose to use burlap for the window treatment, sort of like I'd used an old feed sack. I made a valance and tiers, edging them with a blanket stitch done in red yarn, then hung them from a child-size rake and hoe. It turned out so cute! :) I love the way it's been used in these pics for a more sophisticated look. It really is versatile!

ReplyDeleteI made what I thought a lovely lamp shade out of burlap. My son walked in and I said, " How do you like the lampshade?" He was quiet for a moment, and said, " Well, Mom, if I were in a home less person's box, I would say that lampshade looks great." The rest of the family echoed the sentiment. I went shopping the next day. :) The rest of my burlap in under the sink in my laundry room. I am glad you like burlap.
I love the burlap lampshade, but am not sure I'd like to sit on a burlap-covered settee!

I have just a small blog (mostly for family and catch ups) but the blogs that I see that have huge followings usually have a "theme" of some kind. Decorating, design, jewelery, crafting...but most of all they have an honesty that just shines through....and that's all I know about THAT! Hugs- Diana

She was having a terrible time trying to steam the wrinkles out!
I guess it is ok to have wrinkled burlap, sort of like a linen suit!:)

Oh, my! Look at such a neat variety of burlap things! Many years ago I covered a wall in burlap! Couldn't find wallpaper like it so I used the textured fabric! It stayed up a long time too!
