Sofa, Couch, Chesterfield, Divan, Davenport...

Depending on where you grew up and what era it was, you probably use one of these names in the title for the larger piece of furniture you sit (or lie) on.   I grew up saying *couch,* but now say  *sofa* because it seems....I don't know....less harsh-sounding and more hip, modern and chic. 
I've been casually looking for the perfect sofa.  I'm not trying to impress anyone, nor make a statement...I just want COMFORTABLE, but cottage-stylish.   It's nice to have friends help keep an eye out for you too.  Mary found a simple casual sofa.....


Fran found formal....very formal....






Suzie found a seriously silly sofa that lights up....why it does? We don't know.
















Then Willow found the organic...as in cork. Call me *old fashioned* but I like a BACK on my couch sofa.















Megan even found a METAL torture device....divan.
Friends, I sooo appreciate your help, but I just want something like this......
 
Uh....Kitty, it looks VERY comfy, but to have to lint-brush myself after sitting on my davenport sofa...and I don't have a cat? No.
 
Doxie, thanks, but a little too high-stylized for me.   HELP!

    It will always be "sofa" and "couch" for me.

    Love the pics, especially the one that lights up and the metal one They look great as an art piece but wouldn't want to sit on one!

    The first sofa would be my choice especially with the footstool.

    Yup, couch most of the time unless I'm talking to someone who is more refined and might not understand . . . then it's sofa!

    We pretty much say 'couch' too, but you are so right.. sofa sounds so much more refined!!
    It is so hard to find 'the one' isn't it? An important decision for sure... your behind will spend a fair bit of time there...

    Aussie here so I pretty mich admit to using the bogan term "lounge".

    It's a sofa for me! Tho I DO remember using davenport when I was younger!

    Hello Janean! My Grandparents and Mom were English and so it was a Chesterfield in the living room but on the veranda it was a davenport. Not sure why. I LOVE the sofa you like with the slip cover...the shape even under the cover is clasic. I also like the first one but the backs a tad bit low for me. Looks like a comfy seat though. Good luck finding your perfect 'sofa'...enjoy the hunt! Maura :)

    What an array of different type of sofas....
    I like the white comfy looking one, but in a different color.... our dog thinks the sofa is hers.... well actually it is.
