It Marks the Spot

Aye, when you look at me Pirate's Map, an "X" marks the spot where you can find me treasure.   Uh-oh, I don't think a scallywag, smelly , rotten , greedy sly pirate worth her peg leg should have told bloggy readers. Argh!  Anyway, I'm going to feature furniture that has an X in its design. Do you have any furniture like these examples? Are there any other moms, grandmas, aunts, sistersswash-bucklin' fightin' pirates?  Now comment or be prepared to walk the plank!

  1. It does make such a lovely feature, doesn't it? I love that last dining table, it looks so strong and solid, and although it is beautifully polished, it still has a slight rustic appeal to it. I have an old jarrah outdoor table with the crossed legs, I love it!

  3. Good Morning Janean,
Clever post! When my son was little my Dad had the welders(at the power plant he worked at, (he is an electrician) make an old steel box and put put all kinds of old coins and costume jewelry in it and buried it in his back yard. He got a big sheet of paper and burned the edges and made an old map with directions to the treasure. He hid the map(all crumpled and folded) somewhere in the yard and of course he had my son, who was about 7 at the time, stumble upon it. It took him and my son right to the buried treasure! My son was so excited that he had found pirates treasure!!! As you know, there treasure here is my sweet Dad and my little boy, all those years ago :)

I love the x pattern on furniture!
The only upper cabinet in my new kitchen has glass front doors with the x pattern.
And now that I think about so do my barstools!
I love it...it reminds me of diamonds or harlequin designs. And you just gotta love that whole look!
    Have a wonderful day!

  6. Just took a tour of the house and guess what? I have no "X"'s in any of my furniture? That must be why I found the pieces you showed so appealing! Such a cool post, Janean!

  7. Amazing pieces, but I kind of like the parrot the most! I think I have a thing for pirates, ever since my husband dressed up as one for Halloween. But hey that might be X rated, but it has an X in it, lol!

  14. I didn't think I did, unitl you got to the diamond pattern. I have several trellis type designs in flooring and wallpaper so I think that counts!

It's too bad you missed out on "Talk like a pirate Tuesday" at Wit Behind the Ears. You're much better at it than I am!

  16. When you stop to look around, there are lots of X in everyday life. A picnic table is the first thing I thought about. It must make for a strong unit along with being appealing to the eye.
I just turned around and looked around my sewing room both my cutting table and ironing board have (you guessed it) X's holding them up. Good post for thought, Janean.

  24. At first I thought no "x's" on any of my furniture but then I found two...a wooden folding chair and a metal plant stand. Oh, and I just remembered we have some wooden t.v. tray tables that have folding legs that form an X.

  27. The x pattern on furniture is so classic. We have a butler's table with an x crossbar below and an antique French bench with a stylized x crossbar. Great post and clever title and pirate reference. :-)
