Airing Your Dirty Linen Decor

There's an old idiom, "One should not air their dirty linen in public." It means you shouldn't  have your private or personal problems discussed in public. But today I'm talking about the linen, the fabric. I adore it. I like white, but I REALLY like "dirty" linen...old...with character! It's great to craft with and decorate with. My first encounter with linen was in third grade. A special teacher who traveled around the schools, came in and taught our class how to pull threads on linen to make designs. Right then and there, I was smitten! Do you adore linen as much as I do? What do you own that's linen? 5. After reading your blog I realized I only own two linen items, a cherished apron and a tan and off white linen throw that I repurposed as a tablecloth. Both made locally!

  7. love linen, I picked up one at a thrift store yesterday (white). Not the one I showed on my blog, I don't know what it is made out of, it is extremely thin.
Anyway another great blog subject today

  8. For me it is just tablecloths and napkins, but I also have some lovely antique embroidered linen squares and circles that are so beautiful.

  11. Linen is such a gorgeous textured fabric... I think one of the best things about linen is the Flax plant it is made from. Have you seen how gorgeous the blue flowers are? They grow wild around here.

  12. I own tablecloths and dishtowels I don't use them to often becaues of the ironing -- but I love the look. But I guess I am one who like things always pressed looking with out so many lines.

  18. Like the rest of the posts, I love linen but oh the ironing of it. Nothing better than a pair of linen slacks or a linen dress. The items shown are beautiful.

  19. Hi Janean,
I love linen as well and I love the images of linen you have in this post. I would have to say that linen is my favorite fabric. I love it in all it's shades. I love it thick and nubby and I love it fine and lightweight.
    Great post!
    hugs

  21. I love linen as well and must say I have quite a few pieces...don't seem to use them as much as I use to, personal clothing, dressing scarves, napkins and tablecloths to name a few.....I do find it wrinkles very easily but then that adds to its special look...:-) Hugs

  24. Thanks for visiting us at Kindred Hearts. The Linen place mats that have the string pulled around the edge remind me of work my mother did once for a table cloth. I don't know what happened to it but it was beautiful in my young eyes. Thanks for reminding me. Blessings Clella

  26. I have a chest of drawers full of old linens. I have collected them for years. I use some for display around my house. If they have stains, holes or other imperfections, I make things from them. Often pillows.
