Weathervanes Tell Us More Than Wind Direction
Weathervanes also tell us a little about the people who bought them. Since I was a little girl, I have been fascinated with their beauty and how they work. I still get all excited when I see one perched on top of a barn, garage, home or shed. We've been looking around a bit for a weathervane to either put on our little workshop - when we finish it - or (Please, God let it happen) our future Old Sweetwater Retirement home. We want a weathervane that tells a little something about us. Here are a few I thought you'd enjoy. Anyone have a weathervane? If you were to buy one, what would it be? ReplyDeleteHi, they are really cute! I think they are so practical and whimsical at the same time... I had one with a cow on my farm as a child, but when I get my 'grown up' farm, I would like one with a horse or maybe a windmill!

ReplyDeleteWeathervanes is a hunting adventure for me.. as I've been searching for years and years.. someday the right one will just pop up out of no where and 'poof' there it'll be on the top of my roof.
Copper weathervanes that have a special wear and tear about them works in my book, thus the long hard look for me.

They're all beautiful, but I like the rooster and the leaf the best.

ReplyDeleteI can't help it, my FAVORITE is always the rooster. So down on the farmish.
I like every single one you showed here, but if I could only have one weather vane - - - which currently I have NONE - - - I'd want a rooster.
Our neighbors have given me weather vane envy by putting a perfectly lovely one on their deck - - - it has a golfer on the top, which is appropriate since we live on the 7th fairway of a golf course.

ReplyDeleteI love most of them that you showed. When we build a workshop in our back yard.. I want one as well.. The more shabby and antique the better! :)
I like things that look like they have been through alot.. and have a story to tell!
My husband found a weathervane at an antique store and put it on our shed. It is a rooster perched on a little copula. He is SO proud of it!! And it does looks cute!

Love, love, love weathervanes! We use to have one until a tornado took it. It was a rooster and had a beautiful clear purple glass ball attached. The metal had turned a lovely weathered green.

ReplyDeleteWe adore weathervanes! We have two - one large (eagle) and one very small (whale). We keep them both inside, LOL. We got them from a famous artisan on the coast of Searsport, Maine, about 25 years ago - Weathervanes of Maine. We thought his standing pig was funny and suggested that he do a sitting and prancing one. He did! He's got many more now to choose from. Check out his web site sometime!

I like the classic rooster one. I've always liked chickens and roosters.

We have a lovely Egret weathervane that my parents bought for us as a Christmas gift a few years ago. It has now aged to a perfect green patina and looks perfect on our bowed roof. I must say there is a witch flying on her boomstick that is just wonderful!
