Weathervanes Tell Us More Than Wind Direction

Weathervanes also tell us a little about the people who bought them. Since I was a little girl, I have been fascinated with their beauty and how they work. I still get all excited when I see one perched on top of a barn, garage, home or shed. We've been looking around a bit for a weathervane to either put on our little workshop - when we finish it -  or (Please, God let it happen) our future Old Sweetwater Retirement home.  We want a weathervane that tells a little something about us.  Here are a few I thought you'd enjoy.   Anyone have a weathervane?   If you were to buy one, what would it be?    Okay, a "shout-out" to Olivia who put my Button on her sidebar! Thank you, Olivia!       Top photo is an antique classic Rooster weathervane. Photos 2-9  Cats; Feather; Watering can; Icthus; Moon and Star, Horse, Dog .   I'm off to a BEE KEEPER class!  :)

  1. I'm sorry Janean, but I think I'd like the antique classic Rooster . If it's too common, I'd choose the second one with the cats! xx

  2. Hi, they are really cute! I think they are so practical and whimsical at the same time... I had one with a cow on my farm as a child, but when I get my 'grown up' farm, I would like one with a horse or maybe a windmill!

  3. Yeah for buttons and Bee keeping classes!!

Weathervanes is a hunting adventure for me.. as I've been searching for years and years.. someday the right one will just pop up out of no where and 'poof' there it'll be on the top of my roof.

Copper weathervanes that have a special wear and tear about them works in my book, thus the long hard look for me.

with love and enjoy your day.

  5. Love the weathervanes. Especially the Christian symbol and the feather. I don't have one but if I were buying one I would look for a bird.

  7. Well, the Doxie of course!!! I have two little Doxie girls so that would be perfect. The watering can would be my 2nd choice, though. Becky

  10. I too LOVE weather vanes.

I can't help it, my FAVORITE is always the rooster. So down on the farmish.

I like every single one you showed here, but if I could only have one weather vane - - - which currently I have NONE - - - I'd want a rooster.

Our neighbors have given me weather vane envy by putting a perfectly lovely one on their deck - - - it has a golfer on the top, which is appropriate since we live on the 7th fairway of a golf course.

The Ichthus symbol is a first. Never seen one that unique. That says a huge message to all passing by doesn't it. sweet..
I enjoyed my visit today. Came over from Jayme's blog.

  13. I agree weathervanes are so NEAT!
I love most of them that you showed. When we build a workshop in our back yard.. I want one as well.. The more shabby and antique the better! :)
I like things that look like they have been through alot.. and have a story to tell!

  14. My husband found a weathervane at an antique store and put it on our shed. It is a rooster perched on a little copula. He is SO proud of it!! And it does looks cute!

  15. Love, love, love weathervanes! We use to have one until a tornado took it. It was a rooster and had a beautiful clear purple glass ball attached. The metal had turned a lovely weathered green.

I think if I was ever to have another one, I might go with a rooster again. It just says home to me.

  18. We adore weathervanes! We have two - one large (eagle) and one very small (whale). We keep them both inside, LOL. We got them from a famous artisan on the coast of Searsport, Maine, about 25 years ago - Weathervanes of Maine. We thought his standing pig was funny and suggested that he do a sitting and prancing one. He did! He's got many more now to choose from. Check out his web site sometime!

  22. We have a lovely Egret weathervane that my parents bought for us as a Christmas gift a few years ago. It has now aged to a perfect green patina and looks perfect on our bowed roof. I must say there is a witch flying on her boomstick that is just wonderful!

  23. The bee keeping class reminded me of April at Coal Creek Farm. Watch her video if you haven't already seen it. Too funny!
