Garden Carts or Buggies?
When we lived in Atlanta everyone referred to the store's shopping carts as *buggies.* It got me wondering if my Southern friends say garden buggies instead of garden carts. I'll have to ask. Anyway, I've always had one and have used them for painting baseboard and sanding/staining floors MORE than gardening. Here are some garden cart ideas and the goal of having them! Anyone else a garden cart (buggy) fan? Mine is like the last humble photo, but it has paint splatters on it and duct tape now holding one wheel together - ugh! :) And no, these are not my gardens (only in my dreams).

ReplyDeleteFunny you should mention this word. I used "buggey" in my post yesterday, referring to a shopping cart and one of my commentors asked what it was!

Pretty gardens...I never have had a cart, makes alot of sense. Sometimes I just throw everything in a wheel barrel. Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteDon't know where I got this, but somehow I remember that a cart is something you pull and a buggie is something you push, like a baby buggy. Crazy, huh!
ReplyDeleteOh, and that 4th pic down? I have one! When we laid our rock borders and patio we used it to move the rocks from the pallets to where we needed them, but since then, it rarely gets used - too heavy and bulky.

ReplyDeleteI have a friend who grew up in England and she calls grocery shopping carts, "trolleys." I love that, so maybe we could have garden trolleys too?
Oh my...garden delight! Wish mine looked like any of those. I don't have a garden cart (or buggy)but if I did I would probably call it a cart. I do, however, call that thing at the grocery store or Wal-Mart a BUGGY, in true southern style! For gardening we actually use my husband's camouflaged golf cart that he uses for hunting. It has a space on the back where we throw the tools, the weeds, etc. Of course, I guess that means we are lazy as we ride around the yard but we do get plenty of exercise with our big yard!
ReplyDeleteMy husband David is from Texas and he calls both the garden and shopping ones buggies. I'm from Chicago and I call them carts. I still love him though ... ha ha. The first pic on today's post is my idea of heaven. What a lovely arbor and such a sweet bench. I'd love to be sitting under there with a glass of iced tea enjoying the garden!

ReplyDeleteA buggy is a baby carriage or a supermarket cart. It can also be a garden cart, but we'd be more likely to call it a garden wagon. Interesting!

so maybe I should just give in and buy the old buggy /cart..what do you think....
I guess I didn't live in the south long enough for that one to rub off. I've alway called them "carts". I bought a vintage one to sell several years ago. A red one, and I thought how cute with flowers inside, but it didn't sell so I brought it home. Now I don't know what we'd do without it!

I have a garden station (that is what I call it), looks kind of like it was made by Rubbermaid. It has wheels and has cabinets and a top for planting, and slots for tools. It sits in my daughter's garden now!

You mentioning the buggy/cart name made me smile. Our middle daughter moved to Georgia a few years ago. She had told me how people there call grocery carts a "buggy"...she thought that was the funniest thing! :)

Those are great examples of garden carts. We have never had one but they look very useful. When I think of buggies I think of a baby stroller.

ReplyDeleteI use a wheelbarrow, around the garden to put all my gardening supplies in.
In NZ we call instead of a cart or buggy we use a trolley to get our groceries. Beautiful gardens and thanks for sharing this fun post.

ReplyDeleteOh boy!! I hate to say it, but I use an old wheelbarrow that we got at Cal-stores! Nothing fancy about this country girl . . . although I would like to put on a really beautiful, fancy dress, with pretty shoes . . . and maybe a crown, and sit on the bench under the pink roses ;0} I love pink roses!

I've never heard of shopping carts being referred to as "buggies", but then again, I'm a lifelong Illinoisan/Chicago girl, who also calls soft drinks "POP", and always will. :)
ReplyDeleteYou featured some lovely garden carts though, very useful and attractive. I have the last rolling bench seat - my Mom gave it to me to aid in picking our strawberries, but I've yet to actually use it. Instead, I typically just grab the tools I need and head out, crouching down to pick veggies and weeds. :)
