Chartreuse....mmmmm?

When I was little chartreuse and black was all the rage in decor. My parents had chartreuse lamps with black and gold fleck barrel shades and blonde furniture! Though I'm not a HUGE fan of it, it's color is indicative of Spring....and I like it in my garden in the form of a sweet potato vine, for example. In some of these photos I'm paring it with black, which can hold its own against chartreuse. Would you use this color in your garden and/or outdoor room? Photos: Chartreuse roses; Modern Chair; Polka Dot dish would pair well with the plaid dish and coffee mug in an outdoor room; Earrings - online; Chartreuse and black French-inspired fabric; Chartreuse Gate and....I tried to tell her this is what happens when you get in the pool with too much chlorine!

  1. I hate green but doesn't the color just shout "Spring?" For my spring tablescape I have used some chartreuse plates that are in the shape of a flower and I actually love them in spite of the fact that they are green! I love the earrings you have pictured.

  5. Janean,
That gate is to die for and the troll... Yes, I had a whole collection of them, as a child. Their hair was always lime green, hot pink, etc. Have a good one, my friend.

  7. You know, I'm loving it! Yesterday my aunt and I went to a local monthly antique market and we saw a couple of cabinets - I guess you would call them a sideboard and a china cabinet that had gorgeous natural wood tops and accents, but the bodies were a bit deeper version of this, antiqued with a bit of color to match the wood tops. They were GORGEOUS! The neat thing is that it appeared they were mostly made from older, or maybe recycled lumber. They were just perfect!

  9. Good morning!!
Chartreuse has never been one of my favorite colors, but you have found some very interesting chartreuse pictures. I can't believe that I like the gate, but I do! However, the gate would probably look good any color.
    Have a great weekend!

  10. I do like pops of color against a natural color pallette. Chartreuse is a great color in the spring. I too, adore sweet potato vine. That chair in your photos is absolutely amazing! Thanks for sharing. : ) Melissa

Those roses are beautiful. Not my first choice in colors but I would use it to accent / accessorize with. I had a troll collection!

  14. I do like that chartreuse gate - but otherwise it's a colour I don't think I'd like indoors. I enjoy your colourful posts very much though!

  15. Love the whimsy in the wallpaper with the chartreuse parrots. It's good to see something from our history in a positive light. Of course I adore roses no matter the color.

  16. Oh I do love that combination. Again for adding pops not necessarily an entire room of walls, but it just brightens and accents so well to bring cheer and contrast. Love your photos.... have yourself a great and awesome weekend. Hope you have sunshine outside.
    Hugs.

  17. I love green, but I'm more of a sage person. My bf loves contemporary, and her computer room is a chartreuse. It is awesome as a wall color!

  23. Paired with black, a very pretty color. I wouldn't decorate with it...well maybe for the patio. But I sure would wear it. LOL, the green hair...my blonde granddaughters deal with that every summer.

  24. I would definitely use the mugs. Oh and I had a troll like that as a kid. Whew, what a long time ago!

  25. You're right, chartreuse does say spring! I would use a little of it to give a fresh touch to my decor.

Is that chair covered in Amy Butler fabric? The roses are gorgeous, too.

  26. I love chartreuse and when paired with black or white it can look dramatic or soft and romantic.

Love the little troll doll at the end.

  27. I absolutely LOVE chartreuse, but I know it's not for everyone! It can definitely overwhelm when used incorrectly, but when used in correct combination with other colors, it's fantastic. I really like it paired with a very dark brown, and with pops of pink, but there area million great ways to use it. I usually start with the mantra "elephants are gray, and canaries are yellow" when choosing color combos, then throw the rule out if I don't think it fits the client's style.

  31. Hello Janean! I love this green...probably because green is my favorite color. I don't have anything other than a couple of candles that are chartreuse but they certainly bring the spring color indoors. I love the earrings! I hope you have a wonderful Sunday....Maura

  38. It's really beautiful in the examples you showed to us. I use to have a troll like that! I have some tops that color, I just thought they were lime green.

  39. Wow! I forgot about trolls. Yup had one just like that with the chartreuse hair. Chartreuse was my favorite color at one point in my childhood. Think I just loved the name, not so much the actual color.

  40. Janean~ Thank you for strolling in for a visit and especially for your lovely comment.
Green is certainly not the green of my childhood. Chartreuse with the black lends a more modern look. I like seeing colors paired together that you wouldn't normally think of blending together. The outcome is always a pleasant surprise.
I have a (new) fondness for Celadon green in a soft shade. I hope we see more colors in a new light.

    Sweet wishes,
    Sara

    Thanks!

  42. Janean, this is one of my favorite colors for summer in recent years. I've several things in my wardrobe that are this color. Love the word chartreuse and put it with turquoise makes it all the more appealing to me. LOL

  43. Nothing is more eye popping than light green paired with a dark velvety purple in the garden! It's a beautiful combo! There are some beautiful green hostas out there that are so easy to grow, plant a beautiful trailing deep purple clementis next to one and you will get complimented for years to come! I love your site, its so inviting!

  44. Can you tell me where this chair is from? I LOVE it! Who sells it?

  45. Monika, the chair came from Urban Outfitters. It may not be available any longer, but they have a few others in this color! Hope you find what you're looking for. :)
