Sprinkle, Sprinkle Periwinkle!

I remember seeing the most beautiful bird fly by my first grade classroom window. I could not believe there was a bird that color. I stared at the window praying it would return. A short while later, the Blue Jay came back and rested on the sill. The periwinkle color of the Jay was what transfixed me. It's still one of my favorite colors to wear...just hard to find. Periwinkle has a hint of violet-purple-lavender in it.
Periwinkle stands for: Serene, purity and infinity. Honeybees prefer blue flowers. Philosophy grads' tassels are blue because it represents deliberation, introspection and conservatism.  Who likes Blue Jays or Periwinkle to wear or decorate with?  Photos: Perwinkle Cottage Better Homes and Gardens; Blue Jay (my inspiration); Periwinkle print pillow online; Periwinkle Bus; Periwinkle bedroom; Periwinkle Cupcake Wrapper and Periwinkle yarn!

  5. Periwinkle has always been among one of my favorite colors!
Mainly because I love flowers...hydrandeas are high up there for me and this hue is among them in my garden.
I currently have periwinkle pansies!(They are in my new blog header)
This is one of those colors that bring a smile to my face...whenever wear it or see it.
Have a beautiful day...may it be filled with lovely shade.

  6. Good Morning Janean, I love periwinkle too! It's such a pretty color. I love Blue Jays except their loud call and they can sure be bossy around the feeder. Other than the Cardinal we don't seem to have a prettier bird here in Kansas. Love your photo's. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a wonderful day! Maura

  11. Now there is a color I never knew the likes of, I would have thought it was lavender. I have never seen that bird before but I can see why it gathered your attention at such a young age. It is truly beautiful! Who would have thought you could find that color in nature?

  15. Oh I do love Periwinkle. One of those pastels that reminds me of Easter eggs. Isn't that room just beautiful? I'm loving the fireplace and mantel in there too.
I love the color and markings of bluejays. I rarely have them come to the yard. ..but they are so raucus and loud! Can be bullies!
So maybe it's a good thing. Did see bluebirds going back and forth to a box in the back though. Beautiful. Thanks for another beautiful and colorful post. Love to visit with you. Have a sweet weekend. Thank you for praying form our military. means a lot.
    Hugs.

  17. I do believe that I've seen the cottage you have pictured!! I looks just like one in Lakeside, Ohio, on Lake Erie - an historic, gated little village that began in the 1870s as a Christian retreat. Our best friends are the 3rd generation to own a similar cottage there & we stay there 1-2 weeks every summer!! If it truly is the one I'm thinking of, then there is a nearly identical yellow one next to it.

It's lovely, whether it's from Lakeside or not. :-)

    Blessings from Ohio...Kim<><

  37. I Love Periwinkle Blue! When I was in tenth grade, I was voted Snow Ball Princess (LOL!) and my sis borrowed a gown for me to wear from one of her sister-in-laws. It was that very shade of Periwinkle and I thought it was the most beautiful gown I had ever seen! Loved this post! Kerrie
