Rexall's Limeade Decor

I mentioned previously that my parents and I lived above a TG and Y when I was seven. On the opposite corner was a Rexall Drug Store. As a treat on sultry summer days my dad, my very pregnant mom and I would walk to Rexall's for one of their fresh sparkling limeades at their lunch counter (remember those?).  The bonus was we got to keep the glass, which...uh-hem....blended well with our mis-matched jelly jar glasses.
Since St. Patrick's Day is approaching and there will be a lot o' green, I'm focusing on the new fresh LIME  today.
Anyone else have Rexall Drugstore memories? Do you have lime in your home or would you consider the new softer side of it?  Photos from top: Lime and White Porch; Lime and Robin Egg Blue Bedroom; Lime slippers; Lime and Neutral Bedroom; vintage Rexall sign; Fresh Limeade.

An easy limeade is to add fresh squeezed limes into Sprite, adding super-fine sugar or honey if desired!

  2. Pretty colors. Jeanan, my Mom and I used to eat at the lunch counter at Kreske's when we would go shopping in the fall for my school clothes in Terre Haute, IN. Coming from a small town (1500) in Illinois, it was a big deal to go the big city of Terre Haute, shop and eat lunch at Kreske's. They had the best grilled ham salad sandwiches!

  3. I remember the Rexall Drugs and I think there are still a few left in Arizona...definitely remember TG&Y...big deal in my day....

  4. Gorgeous pics! Love the wall in the 2nd bedroom - very cool!

And I always had cherry cokes. A coke by itself was a treat, but add in cherry syrup, heaven!

The drugstore where I went as a child burned down a couple of months ago - one more piece of my history bites the dust! :o(

  5. Love those snazzy shoes! Yes, I remember when we went to the drugstore "counter" and had refreshments. That was quite a treat. Great memories, Janean.

  6. Janean,
I love the "lime look." My Mom and I used to go to Terre Haute, IN every fall to do my school clothes shopping. Since I am from a town with only 1500 people, this was the big city to me. We used to lunch at Kreske's at the counter. They had the best grilled tuna an ham salad sandwiches. What a treat!

  8. I never got any of those limeades, but I did get a few cherry cokes! I think they cost a nickel, LOL. I like the color lime as long as it is not too bright.

  9. I don't remember the limeade, but I DO remember the soda counters at drug stores. I MISS those. I used to think it was the HUGEST treat to get a soda, or a cherry coke, or even a sundae loaded with whipped cream and one cherry on top!

  10. We used to have a Rexall Drug store in our town. It had a wonderful lunch counter. Oh, their grilled cheese sandwiches were to die for! Although I love limeades I don't remember ever having one there though. Love the photo with the iron bed!

  11. Loved the pictures today! I love lime-aide! Thanks for the super easy recipe you left. I have a few limes in the fridge I need to use...perfect!

I also wanted to mention, Janean, that if you will take a quick peek at bits and pieces you will see you are one of ten ladies that I passed something on to. ~wink~

  12. My Aunt and Uncle lived next to a Rexall Drugs Store in Dallas. My sister and I always thought we were such big stuff when we would go for a visit and get to walk to that store. We lived in the swamps of Louisiana so even a big drug store was a big deal to us..ha! Enjoyed this post. brought back some great times. Thank you~

  15. I don't have any Rexal memories however, my Mom worked as a "soda jerk" when she was a teenager at the local drug store. It's some of her fondest memories... Don't you wish there were still soda fountains like that to go to for an afternoon treat? Blessings - Julie

  17. Do you have those glasses today? Wouldn't that be something. I remember TG&Y and Rexall Drug but I don't remember the limeade. My hubby had a lime green bedroom when he was a boy. He loved it! I do have bits of lime green in my cottage. It was my favorite color to wear(it was more like chartreuse{sp?}) when I was pregnant and mothering my four young children...it was really in style back then.

  18. What a sweet memory!

I LOVE lime as well.. and their is a killer drink we make called "Brazilian Lemonade" that is our families new favorite drink. If you google it.. it's simple ingredients.. but the drink is so refreshing and yummy!!
-- Because of it.. we ALWAYS keep an abundance of Limes on hand!

I also LOVE the color lime right now.. and although my color in my bathroom says "moss" it kinda has a lime feel to it!

MMMM... Now I want a lime rickey or something.. :)

  19. Hello Janean! I LOVE green...it's such a calming color even the brighter greens even though refreshing, still having a calming affect. At least for me. I love the porch and the lime soda at the end has made me thirsty so I'm off to get a drink. Have a wonderful day and thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures....Maura

  20. I am liking some of the new greens as shown in your pretty pictures. Love the porch. I still have visions of the old avacado green I had so much of in the 70's so I have stayed away from green in my home. (Except for "greenery" as in plants or faux plants)
Loved the shoes though and have a capri outfit they would go perfectly with.

  21. Rexall drug store was several blocks over from where we lived, in Houston, TX. When raw eggs were okay for you ~ my mom would order milk-shakes with a couple of eggs after my doctor visits. I do not carry on this tradition ~ but have very good memories of the Rexall Drug Store... I really like the lime greens and baby the brighter the better ~ it's what some are going for :) love you sweets, kimmie-pooh!

  22. I remember Rexall but didn't go in one often enough to remember much.
I do LOVE the pictures you posted.

  23. When I painted my master a robins egg blue, I thought of lime as an accent color. Your picture just made up my mind. Love it! And the limeade sounds delicious!

  24. I don't really remember Rexall, but certainly recall TG&Y, I LOVED that store when I was a kid. The one in our small Texas town closed down in the early 80's and I guess it was one of the last ones around here as I've never seen another one. Do you remember Skillern's drug store? That's where my mother shopped back in the day, don't see those here anymore either.

    Love that lime green color!

  25. PS. I noticed you have a Bakerella blog button over in your sidebar and I was wondering where you found it. I looked all over her blog and couldn't find any code for it.
    Thanks!

  26. Hi Janean!

Oh yes! I have memories and we still have an old Rexall Drug store in the small town, complete with the soda bar! Coke floats were my favorite drink after riding my bike there on Saturdays...oh the memories!

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend :)

  28. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. Oh, I love the lime color in your photos! I just used lime in my granny squares and I love it. It's such a pretty color. We had a Rexall in my home town in Ohio and I remember sitting at the soda counter with my Dad on one of those round stools - I remember falling off the stool and being embarrassed. That was a long time ago. What is TG & Y? I'm drawing a blank.

  29. Love those pics and colors. I remember as newlyweds, my hubbie and I would order patti melts and a root beer float. We sat on the stools, too. :)

  30. We didn't have a Rexall that we went to regularly, but we did have a TG&Y. I loved going there because we could buy a little bit of everything, even fabric. Limeade sounds really good right now.

Love the color, the fruit, everything... But I've never seen a Rexall. I feel I may have missed a lot of good things :-/

  34. Lovely photos. I think the lime with the white wicker is my favorite, but I could sit on that long porch with a nice glass of limeade in those sweet lime slippers. Clever post.

  39. Love limeades...especially cherry-limeades! Rexall Drug...ours was Gwin's Rexall Drug and my third grade teacher give each student a gift certificate for Gwin's. It was for only a dime, but that was the price of a fountain drink.;-)

Stopping by to say congratulations on your Sunshine Award from Dianna.

    Blessings!
