When I think of Irish decor, images of thatched roofs, aged stucco, limestone and sophisticated rustic interiors come to mind.
I've read a few cozy mysteries set in Ireland and adored the descriptions of the cottages. I imagine it would be so delighted to visit the Green Isle! Who lives there? Who has visited? What comes to mind with Irish decor to you? I went to Dublin a couple of years ago and loved it, the place, the people, the music, it's all wonderful! I told DH it's where I want to retire to, a little country cottage tucked in the rolling green hills! Margaret

ReplyDeleteI love that house. I've always loved a thatched roof. My mother was lucky enough to go to Ireland a couple years before she died. She was Irish so it was very important to her. The pictures were beautiful! I wish I could have gone. So even though I didn't go I have been putting together a scrapbook for my father so he can have something to go back to and remember their wonderful trip.

What a beautiful post Janean! I love Ireland too...never been there but one day I'll get my sister who lives near London to take me. Yes thatched roof cottages and lace and stone walls...rolling hills of green and shamrocks and sounds of the Irish flute and the bodhran drum. These are things I think of when I dream of Ireland. It's such a beautiful country. Thank you for taking me there even if it's just in my imagination. Maura

ReplyDeleteIsn't the imagination a wonderful thing? I know I'll never visit there, but I can imagine that grand Emerald Lady as well as if I were standing on her shores! The cottage you've shown here is my dream. :) Aren't they just the sweetest things? I do have just a bit of Irish blood coursing through these veins, too! :) Compliments of my my maternal grandfather.

Oh Janean, loving this post. I have a Scotch Irish background.( My maiden name is Shaw. My grandfather was an Angus) You just reminded me to go stick my St. Patty garden flag out front.! Wouldn't it be neat...truly, to go and visit over there and hear the brogue! I love it. Loved all the pics. You have the greatest knack to find PERFECT photos to accompany your posts. We are estatic that our next door neighbor at our new house is a dual citizen and owns a house in Dublin! She is a hoot. We sure enjoyed our two trips to Ireland and would love to go back again.

I'm of Scotch-English background...waaaay...back in the family tree (early 1800s) & then they came to America & got mixed in w/the Cherokee. Quite the heritage, but I've often dreamt of researching some distant relatives & visiting Scotland.

There's a small thatched roof Irish pub near our home that we visit from time to time, they have a lot of live music there as well. It will have to suffice until we can make a trip to the real deal. :)

Ireland is my home, away from home. I have family and friends there. What's not to love? The country and culture embraces everyone who wants to join in.

One thing I miss when I'm away on holidays is the peacefullness, the rolling hills and the lakes and the potatoes for dinner. ReplyDeleteMy husband was born in Ireland and came over to England when he was nine.A few years ago he took me there for a holiday and to visit the places he remembered as a child.It is a beautiful unspoilt country and the people are unbelievable friendly too.I love all your pictures,but the thatched cottage has to be my favourite!

My husband and I are going to Ireland next year for our 25th wedding anniversary. Both have ancestors from Ireland.
