The Auction and Fleur De Lis

I walked into a "back woods" flea market and bought this beautiful iron Fleur-de-lis a few years ago for a fantastic price...$3.00! It reminds me of the time my friend sold a statue at a well-attended auction.  Though not a bust, the artist did not sculpt the lower half of the arms to focus on the face and shoulders.  Well, the poor auctioneer said, "Folks, this here stach-ewe is in good shape exceptin' for the arms done been broke off. Whattya gimme fer it?"  No kidding!  Are you surprised to find out it didn't bring anything? Enjoy the classic-inspired and modern takes on one of the ancient symbols of France.  Any auction "bargains" you want to brag about?   Photos 2-6 : Double Old Fashion glasses, metal trivot, serving tray, small cannisters, bath soap!

  1. Hi Janean, Thanks for your visit and comment...nice to "meet" you. Hope you like that apple strudel! I have to tell you I'm completely swooning over that header photo...that looks like my kind of place! <3 Charm with a capital "C"!

Although I've scored some amazing finds from the thrift store, up to this point, I haven't been much of an auction girl. I've been thinking about checking out a few in our area this summer...your post makes me want to all the more!

    Blessings,
    Tracy

  13. Beautiful. Great bargain.
I'm glad you visited my blog. I've enjoyed my visit here. I really liked the black wrought iron post. I was amazed when we were in Boston in October that there was so much of it there.

  16. Janean,

I love the story about your friends 'broken stachew".
    Priceless.

Most of my amazing finds at thrift stores are antique books. Although, I did score a brand new (still in box/never opened) wine cooler for Thomas at a mere $15!

  20. Hi,
I found a wooden Fleur de lis one time at a 3 day thrift sale. I didn't snap it up the first day and when I came in the next day,of course, it was gone! I still think of that and I will know better in the future! Thanks for stopping by and saying "hi."

  21. Just a touch of french is what I love to decorate with. Little dabs here and there. Not overbearing just smidges works best in my book. But everyone's book is different and that's what I love about interior collections!!

    Love ya sweeties

  29. Aren't auctions fun! We used to live in Maine and going to the auctions (and buying) was our main entertainment. Once left a bid with a friend while I went out to change a diaper. Returned to find I owned a lovely metal bed at more than I expected to pay!!!
