Sleigh Ride

To me one of the most romantic scene in a movie was in Dr. Zhivago -- the horse drawn sleigh ride.   In the mid 1970's I even bought a huge fox hat like the one worn by Geraldine Chaplin!  Sleigh rides also seem to be one of the most favorite things people want to experience, especially during the Christmas season.   A winter night sleigh ride would be wonderful snuggled under a down-filled woolen blanket.   I thought I'd show some photos of a sleigh as a different kind of Christmas post. Anyone else want to go or has been on a winter sleigh ride?
The sleigh below was auctioned off in 2007 and reminds me of the movie.

  1. So odd, I was thinking about that sleigh ride in Dr. Zhivago yesterday and also that beautiful château dripping in icicles.
Such beautiful imagery. I can hear the bells.

  2. I remember that scene - the height of romance - who didn't want that cossack-inspired hat?!
I once had a memorable sleigh ride on the lake at Lake Louise, in the Rockies. I was wrapped up in a buffalo robe, there were ice crystals in the air, jingle bells on the horses - perfect!

  3. One of my fondest memories is of a sleigh ride taken in Sun Vally after a long day of skiing. Snow flakes gentley falling, bells on horses ringing, hot cider, warm throws over us, much singing and laughter! Ahh......

  5. I have been on the horse drawn carriages in downtown Chicago and once around Central Park in New York. Both times we were covered up with scratchy blankets that were used by the horses between rides! lol!! Not very romantic!!

  9. I love the sleigh ride in Dr. Zhivago too. In fact, it's been awhile since I've watched that movie, I think we need to do that. I've never been on a sleigh ride, they aren't too common here in So. Cal., but I'd love to go on one someday.

  10. Oh I love that movie and the sleigh ride! I know just how you feel. Last year I bought a coat with a fur hood on sale at Coldwater Creek and we live in Florida! It reminded me of the movie and the sleigh ride! We have the tape and its right up with "Bridges of Madison County" as my romantic favorite. Of course BOMC do not have all the war and that, oh my Yuri was just gorgeous wasn't he?
Yes, I would love to take a sleigh ride! I think that and a carriage ride in the South is about as romantic as you can get. You gave me an idea to post our "carriage ride" on a very cold day in New Orleans a few years ago. I will let you know when I post it and you can drop by.
    Hugs,

  12. The photos bring back memories !! I remember that movie & always thought it was so romantic! I have been on a lot of sleigh rides , I grew up on a farm and my father had a team of horses and a very big sled, he would put hay bales on it and we would bundle up and go for a ride .. for some reason the cold didnt bother me then , now it bothers me !!! You have a delightful blog !
