Gift-giving is an art. Good gift-givers are usually talented and artistic, but most importantly they are good listeners. They are focused. They observe. They think. They're not lazy. They're not stingy.
I've been blessed to have a few of these people in my life. Every time I opened one of their gifts, I was amazed. One such gift was from a man who sent us a beautiful large basket filled with all sorts of classy gifts, including a Trapp candle set. For those unfamiliar with Trapp, they offer such unique fragrances as Orange Vanilla, Mediterranean Fig, Sugared Fruit, Wild Current, Orange Clove and Black Pepper! I just kept thinking that he cared. He really cared.
Have you had someone in your life who is a good gift-giver? Are you one? Using these old salvaged numbers to remember or mark an important date to the one you're giving the gift to would be appreciated, don't you think?
I have a dear friend who gave me a huge box of pink Depression pieces one year for Christmas. Most of the pieces had a flea bite or two on them, but they were cheap; and she knew I would love them. Her husband thought she was nuts! But a true friend knows what to give.

I aspire to be a good gift giver! Sometimes I hit the mark and others...not so much! Always room for improvement and I will remember these Trapp Candles!

ReplyDeleteMy daughter and son are thoughtful gift givers. I'll often open a book or a treat that I thought no one knew I'd like - it's lovely. On the other hand, I has a MIL who seemed to be in a contest with herself to find the most inappropriate gift - a red plaid maternity top on Christmas (I wasn't expecting!|), an electric sausage stuffer (??!!!)...we just had to laugh!

those kind of gifts are the best. On your previous post about those aluminum vintage colored glasses: well, I have a set of the tumblers, pitcher, and ice cream bowls. I love love love them. I found them at an antique store years ago. I had to have them because my grandma had a set and I loved drinking out of them. The beverage would be sold cold and so good. I hope you get a set for Christmas.

ReplyDeleteYes, many great gift givers! My sweet sister Nancy was incredible with gifts, things you didn't know you wanted until you opened it and gasped with excitement.
I try to fit the gift to the person and make it something they might not buy for themselves, something pampering, something extra fro the ordinary.
