Level Headed

The east and west side walls are complete (picture center bottom). Phew!  During this process I was reminded that my husband measures everything with a micrometer which measures in 1/1000ths of an inch (pictured on left).   
"Who's going to SEE the siding this close to the ground? Squirrels? Bugs?" I asked.   "I'll see it," he answered.  (you can click to enlarge photo)


Okay, he does not literally use a micrometer, but if the edges of the wood siding, correction, VERY HEAVY wood siding were even 1/16th off, he demand I hold the siding level.

In the kindest words my numb-with-cold lips could utter, I'd assure him, "Good night nurse! I AM holding it as level as I can while standing on my head! May I add my nose is running up my face?"     

Yeah. It wasn't pretty.

During these times I "go to another place" in my imagination. When I was a little girl we lived in a couple of places that had push-button light switches. They're back! I'd really like to put them in the Barn House, but with decorative plates (like the oiled bronze one showed) instead of slick stainless. What do you think?

    Oh, my, what a delightful posting! I love those light "switches". Hope I can find some!!
    And I am soooo crazy about things being balanced. Even the weight of colors in a picture grouping can drive me nuts it is not even.
    AND finally... my mother-in-law used to say, "Good night, nurse!" Thanks for bringing that to me this morning. I think she just sent a message to me through you. ;-)

    Some years back I went to a home in a very historical part of Atlanta. The beauty this home brought to it’s neighborhood was astonishing. Inside the old home, in each of the many bedrooms, were push buttons that seemed so futuristic in the aged décor. Push buttons have been around longer then we may realize. I like the old bronze one!

    I LIKE the light switches. I could just imagine trying to figure them out though. I would be confused :)

    Wow, I love this contemporary update for an old-fashioned light switch. I was always fascinated with these. Same thing with my girlfriend's used Studebaker when we were in college.It was push button gear shifting!!

    I'm so glad you got the walls up. Cute story too. I remember the push button light switches too. We never did have them here, but I remember them in the homes of relatives I visited in Missouri. I loved them. I didn't know you could get them again.

    Thanks for visiting my blog...and ya know...our home has the original push button switches in it too....I guess I had forgotten that they were old and odd...lol.
    I love old homes with lots of character....

    Those switch plates are really cool. I hadn't seen them. My husband's the same way. We built our house and our shop and I know all about their little quirks!

I've never seen a light switch like that...but I like it. I love barn stars. And...gosh...I'd love to have that old pickup.
