I was given a pheasant pelt (complete with the tail feathers) about 25 years ago. I mounted it on a grape wreath vine and embellished it with bittersweet, magnolia leaves and other autumnal foliage...I was enamored! From then on I wanted pheasant feathers in my decor. Though long, quality feathers can be costly, they are much more reasonable and available today than all those years ago. Does anyone else like or use pheasant feathers? Photos: 1) I have several pheasant ornaments; pheasant placemats from Twiggery; Pheasant lamp from Old Wildlife Decor; needlepoint pillow from Decor Medley; handbag from Ferragamo; dishes from Pottery Barn (now unavailable); pheasant boutonniere; pheasant writing lap desk from Robin King Designs; this last one....vintage and a little over the top!
I haven't got any myself, but I really like those placemats and shall we call them 'pheasant balls'? haha
ReplyDeleteThe feathers are such beautiful colours.. I like the use of them a lot more than the actual bird.
Flick xo

Janean,
ReplyDeleteThey are one of God's beautiful animals. I am not sure I could wear one on my head, tho??? lol
Love and hugs,

I really didn't know anything at all about pheasant feathers until reading this post. While I liked the pheasant dishes and cushion and the brooch, I'd have to say that I'd shy away from real feathers in home decor - just a quirk of mine!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize pheasant was so 'wildly' popular!! Love the place mats and the balls!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
I love pheasant feathers. I have a friend at church whose husband hunts and brings me tail feathers.
ReplyDeleteI used to have an arrangement with the whole pelt and I had it in a basket with lily pods and different things around it.
To many moves since than, so I no longer have it. But I loved it.
I have always loved how pheasants looked out in the fields. I can't say it ever entered my mind to use them in decorating. :) They look pretty though. I am glad you posted I have missed your great posts. I hope you have a lovely rest of the week.
ReplyDeleteWell, I just have to say, I HAVE to HAVE that hat!!! I mean, I would just stand out in a crowd...opps, someone might shoot me!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Thanksgiving, everyone...pheasant under glass might be divine, served on those beautiful plates.
Ha, that pic at the head is fantastic! What a lovely country look this all makes!
ReplyDeleteYou are a wild woman today Janean !! warmmmm hugs from me Love Ria....
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! I enjoyed reading this and seeing the examples (some are funny) :o)
ReplyDeleteBut the others are lovely - I think the colors of the Pheasant are so glorious.
Me, me! I love feathers! I have those feather ornaments and also a wreath. I like the pheasant pillow.
ReplyDeleteWe used to have a pheasant that stood on my hubby's grandmother's hearth. I don't know what happened to it...It was beautiful though..and I think it must have got lost in one of our moves. Love those balls with the feathers on them. Diana
ReplyDeletePheasants are such beautiful creatures that God created! Wonderful pictures.
ReplyDeleteYep, Janean, over the top! :)

I really think I should wear the pheasant sweater for Thanksgiving - on second thought, someone might think I'm just an over-sized turkey . . .;0)
