Extrodinary Formal Christmas Dinner

Any holiday dinner needs to be extra-ordinary, and I prefer to lean toward formal.  When hostessing a holiday dinner,  i use my best china, crystal, flatware and silver.  Here is what a formal table setting looks like.
i also used individual salt cellars for my extra-special touch.   It took me a couple of years to find twelve sets of cut glass cellars.  Don't ask me why, but when we moved from Georgia to Missouri, i sold them all at a garage sale!  Temporary insanity is my plea.  This is a decision i've regretted over and over.  Now i see the silver cellars pictured below and the inexpensive individual shakers (pictured below the cellars),  and wish i had mine again. I didn't have all the little spoons yet, so we allow "pinching" the salt.  If you have either cellars or shakers, may i suggest keeping them even if you don't think you'll use them again?   if not, you can find them for a few dollars each up to nearly $1,000 a set like the silver pair below.   No matter the cost, they add that "little extra-ordinary" touch to any table.  Anyone else have salt cellars or individual shakers?     The sterling silver salt and pepper cellars are available at goantiques.com.

  1. Beautiful table setting.
I so understand regret of selling something and wishing you had not.
My mother had scads of those glass salt cellars. After her major stroke we moved them from a house they had been in for 40 years to a small place close to me here at the Lake. So many things we have regretted letting go at auction. I can only hope they made someone else happy.

  3. Your table is beautiful...love your china. And yes, I'd love to collect salt cellars too. Wouldn't it be great to run into a whole set of 12?? Maybe at an estate sale.

Now, my sugar scuttle. Oh, I love that and it took me a long time to snap that up!!

  6. Oh Janean .. just lovely indeed.

I love formal holiday's.. hubs does not. He has to do the dishes and fine china and crystal gets hand washed only.

Herb crusted standing rib roast this holiday and yes the crystal salt cellars with their wee spoons.

I feel for your loss on the ah.. 'temporary insanity' sale. But something will come your way very soon indeed.

    Enjoy the eve my dear.
